I was thinking today, everyone knows that Dopers are the coolest people in the world. Ok, we know we’re the coolest people in the world. We communicate through this message board and it becomes a great place for a meeting of the minds. Through our social interactions here, however, we have a tendency to clog the board, suck down bandwidth, etc, for things that are really more one on one social.
We enjoy flirting, and having little friend to friend interactions. This doesn’t necessarily go with the whole purpose of this message board, but hey, where else are you going to find a huge group of intelligent folks to flirt with, have good conversations about life, and make smart assed remarks?
I’m proposing that we continue to steal bandwitdh for these purposes to a great extent (JK) However, in addition to that, I noticed that a lot of people have IM clients listed on their profile. It’s a tad odd to just IM someone out of the blue if you’ve only read their posts and they may not have even noticed you.
“You’re who from the SDMB?”
Here’s how it works, post in this thread if you have an IM client listed, or list your client and post in this thread, however you want to do it. If your client username is way different from your SDMB username, list it out so others can see it.
Like I = Shlnrabbit on AIM. Note: This isn’t an example of way different.
Then, pay attention to everyone else who posts in here. The idea is that anyone who posts in this thread is amenable to friendly conversation with anyone else who posts in the thread. Good luck, and have fun!
Ok, so now that I’ve added the people who have posted so far, and notice that some of them are even online, I still feel stupid IMing a stranger saying, “Yeah umm… hi and shit. I saw you in that one thread and stuff, you know?”
We need some sort of ice-breaker code sentence to get conversations starting, like “So hi there. Ever get arrested while naked?”
AIM: pt9631 (couldn’t get any good user names so eventually just picked my initials and some random numbers…)

Feel free to say hello whenever. I’m always online, but often forget to put up away messages, so if I don’t reply just means I’m not in front of the computer, I’m not being anti-social or anything (well, sometimes I am, but thats when I do know who the person is…)…
I have an AIM account and a Yahoo name, so rather than download Y! messenger (what idiot decided that “custom install” automatically sets Yahoo as the default search engine without being cancellable?) I went and downloaded Trillian, which I’m now working out the kinks to.

Please try to mention the SDMB, or I’ll probably be pretty quiet.
