Over in another thread we’ve just been reminded of this, which was part of the first announcement:
So presumably the first symptom will be, not an inability to get at the boards to read them, but an inability to post; at least, if I’m understanding it right. Then, possibly simultaneously but that’s not clear, trying to get to the boards will get us to Discourse, and presumably looking at a page telling us to update our passwords.
I’d think that the inability to post wouldn’t show up as a 502 or 504, but either as a “down for maintenance” or as its own message; but I don’t know about that, that’s just a guess.
Well it’s 8:25 at night my time, which means it’s about noon in Chicago.
So I’m thinkin’ that the technicians have had the morning to set up equipment, and now they’re on lunch break.
And now that they’ve eaten most of their lunch, they’re gonna take another couple minutes to finish their coffee.
And when they finish the coffee, they’re gonna set the processes in motion…

Even more terrifying…it might put it back together.
I don’t know if the board in read-only mode, as they make the transition, would be visible to ordinary users or not. It’s possible that it’ll be readable only to the database script that’s copying everything over. Or it’s possible that all read operations will be allowed, and so everyone will still be able to see the current board frozen in time.
I intend on being frozen in time. (Where’s my winter coat and gloves)

You know what I’m going to miss most (hopefuully)? The way that Show Posts From Last Two Days mysteriously resets itself to ten days for no apparent reason. My favourite bug.

Bugs in the works don’t bother me too much. I just like to know what they are so I can adjust myself to work with them, not against them.
