How is it a hijack, I started thread, and I asked the follow up question to you. You and your friends are just out to get me, aren’t you? 
No no no… cliques are a bad word, you’re in various groups. And I’ve never seen you be an ass to someone, just because they are not in your group, so groups aren’t a bad thing.
I remember, thats what really inspired this thread. Not that I think you are, just that I’m sick of seeing people called a Clique Meister and expecting that to be a legitimate arguement.

I’m probably the most insignificant old timer here. I’ve formed one or two friendships since joining this board and that’s it. I would like to feel like more of the “in-crowd” but I don’t and I’ll openly admit that it’s my own fault. I’m somewhat shy IRL and I don’t want to make the first move towards forming a friendship (I assume that’s done by sending e-mails) and no one here has shown any interest in getting to know me IRL… so there you go. I’m not going to let that keep me from reading and posting because I love this place. I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that I’m not well known and that’s fine. I still feel that I make some sort of contribution here… no matter how insignificant it may be.
And because this is the pit I just want to add… Fuck!

Oh yeah, there’s the ego boost I was looking for this afternoon (I’m a drake BTW).
In a way I think my reply will address this thread nicely though. I may have a May '99 registration date, but prior to about June of 2000, I think my post count may have been 1, if that. I’ve been reading Cecil’s books since they first came out, but never had AOL so I didn’t get involved in that MB. However, when Unca Cece gained a web presence, I rushed right over to sign up. I didn’t post a lot because quite frankly I felt intimidated.
Nothing to do with cliques or anything, but I could tell just by reading that this was a fairly tight community. I didn’t feel that I was being excluded, but I also knew that I didn’t have the time to get the feel of the board. I didn’t want to just barge right in and make a nuisance of myself, so I lurked for a while. Then life took over and I ended up not being here for a year.
When I came back, I had the time to start paying attention to the group dynamics and learning the pace and flow of things around here. I’ll be the first to admit that I still have no clue what’s going on around here half the time, but I don’t feel there’s any intentional effort being made to exclude me either. I’m just grateful that this crowd exists.
Well, I don’t know about the rest of you losers, but us BADs (Bay Area Dopers to you losery newbies) are definitely a clique. We sit around at every Dopefest, talking about how we can take over he board and how much we hate the rest of you all.
And don’t let the chat people tell you different. They do the same thing.
And some of us are on the old-timer clique e-mail discussion list that says who we should be flaming that week. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.
