So socialised medicine is supposed to suck, right? WRONG.
Yesterday I woke with a pain in my arse. Literally. Using a mirror it looked like I had sat on something or something had bitten me. It didn’t get better, so when I went in to have my blood drawn today I spoke to the nurse about it. She looked and identified it as most likely a sebaceous cyst. She said she would arrange an appointment with the doctor. Shortly after I got home - less than a 5 minute walk - I got a phone call with the appointment for 20 minutes later. So I walked back, saw the doctor who confirmed the diagnosis and prescribed me some medicine. Total time: less than an hour.
It may have to be lanced, but hopefully not.
Why strange? Because I went to see Doctor Strange afterwards!
I seem to remember posting about this at the time, but (I think) 2 years ago, I woke up with Incredibly itchy skin. Now I get bad eczema, so for me to be thinking it, it’s really itchy, and getting painful, and it suddenly occurred to me that it was probably a repeat of the staph infection I’d had before.
Problem was, it was December 23rd, 4pm, and I was due to head off to stay with family first thing the following morning.
Called the doc, explained the situation, they said come straight over, we’ll see what we can do. Was there within ten minutes, seen straight away, got confirmed that yup, it looked like I had a problem, and I was out with my prescription for antibiotics with 30 minutes of realising the problem was potentially serious.
Straight round the corner to the pharmacy before they closed, picked up antibiotics, and was home with 'em less than an hour after picking up the phone, despite being on foot. Oh, and of course, the total cost? £8 or so, for the drugs.
