I find all the ones where people are sharing way too much information about their personal lives kind of strange. You’re not as anonymous on this board as all that, and I find it fascinating that people have no qualms about discussing, for instance, whether their wife likes the odd spanking.
Holy hell, reading that was like reading a court opinion as written by the Timecube guy.
I’m partial to Homer’s Monkey Butler thread.
It’s a tossup between the one where someone claimed he knew the New Messiah and where someone claimed that he was going to sit at the right hand of Jesus and nuzzle against his knees whilst all the Straight Dope sinners were brought forth for judgment a’fore him in the Court of the High Lord and condemned to the fiery depths of hell. That? Was f’ckin awesome.
I’m glad someone kept the link to this.
I haven’t been able to find it, but someone startedasked for help with writing a report on “To Kill a Mockingbird.” We destroyed that book, including someone who stated that Boo & Dill became the founding members of the North American Man Boy Love Association.
When the OP stated that the teacher was amazed to find that out, someone responded “What’s so surprising? Wasn’t Dill always trying to get Boo to come out”? That post made me laugh more than any one I’ve ever read on the entire Internet
Fuck. I’ve never seen a theread become legendary in just two posts!
“theread”?, “startedasked”? Apparently it spreads.
Was the first thread the one where the Messiah/Second Coming of Jesus was the gay teen-age son of a (maybe) W-M executive?
And to whoever is thinking it, the second thread is NOT mine! I had a different vision of Judgment Day.
There’s one I’ve got in mind from back in '03, but it hasn’t been mentioned in so long I’m wondering if there might be some sort of moratorium on it or not.
It involved…wonderful living woman sperm.
This is very bizarre. I remember this thread very clearly, but I don’t even think I was posting here in 2004. Maybe I was just a lurker.
Freudian Slit, that thread about the girl with a ghost friend was definitely weird. What was so bizarre about it was how passioantely engaged people got with one another. For the record, people take movie-watching ghosts very fucking seriously.
This was the one that convinced me to join. I got a special little place in my heart for that thread…
I recall a “Moon Hoaxer” who linked us to a billion images from his site. Sadly, not unusual, however the images were not the usual things you see. Instead, he had filtered and distorted and blown up the images claiming that he saw evidence in the blurry blobs that the pics had become.
I can’t remember his name but lord was his “evidence” strange.
I think I joined because of very vaguely creepy, the thread–the original. Or at least it was one the first things that I posted in. That was also a strange thread. I liked it because it didn’t just have things like haunted houses or ESP or possible ghosts (not that those aren’t cool) but also things like random rubber gloves and babies named Gary.
My skin just tried to escape
My favorite thread hi-jack is the Sean Astin one which starts out asking a straight forward question about Astin’s upbringing but then devolves into a serious dogfight about the merits of Buddhism.http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=378300&
That is one of my favorite threads of all time. The part where pravnik says he’d fire a warning shot first, just to show the kid he meant business, had me giggling for days. And then Hitler is covered in glue, and things go downhill from there.
Only on the Dope is such a thread possible. I am not sure whether to be grateful, or depressed, about that.
Mmmmm…Monkey Butlers!
That thread deserved to at least go to a 2nd page. Shame on you Czarcasm!
p.s. Am I right in thinking this post inspired the username of a current poster?
THAT’S where he came from!!
What ever happened to homer, anyway?
The funniest thing about the monkey butler thread is that nobody responded in the almost 13 hours between homer’s original and second post.
Seethruart. He was… unusual.
Scylla, he’s still around here sometimes. I can’t find that thread either. He had to go to his wife’s gynecologist to get it out again.
The thread about the cooler of evil got pretty weird in places.
