My back is acting up, so I watched a couple of on-demand movies today that I hadn’t seen before:
The sublime: Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead - Philip Seymour Hoffman is once again superb. While I’m not really a fan of movies that keep jumping around in time, the plot for this one was enjoyable enough, and the acting good enough, that I didn’t mind too much. Also, the opening scene is totally hot wanking material and once again I’m under Tomei’s spell.
The ridiculous: Angels and Demons - Tom Hanks must not have been able to get out of his contract on this one. The female lead was catatonic. The film just didn’t work, even if one could look past the idiotic plot and bad science.
