The Surprise! MMP

Stopping for the day after two hours?

Back at home from the popsicle, and DH is snoozing off the happy juice.

Did you bring enough for everyone?

Home, waiting for the shrimp to thaw. We’re having scampi over rice. It’s still overcast and dreary, and I just want to sleep…

Morning, all. First day at work as an actual, permanent (hah) employee, rather than a contract-to-hire. First time out of six that the “-to-hire” part actually happened, rather than getting to the end of the “contract-” part and getting told “well, we’ve re-evaluated the staffing situation, and you’ve helped make some terrific improvement with our backlog (it’s gone, really, thanks again), and with the other changes and improvements to efficiency that you’ve made, we think that the other contractor (who you trained) is a better bet for us because he’s fresh out of college and willing to work for peanuts seeyabye.”

So, I guess I’m surprised I still have a job because… I didn’t do a great job?

No, there wasn’t even any extra happy juice for me. Probably just as well, but the way some people drive around here, maybe they are on fentanyl and propofol.

Har Har gotti. I was at irk at 7:15 a.m. I decided to leave and irk from da cave because of the ick weather. Acccordin’ to my very unofficial rain gauge, we’ve gotten 4 inches of rain since about eight o’clock last night.

Early dindin is et. 'Twas good. I feel like I could go to bed right now.

The scampi was really good - I got the recipe off the shrimp bag, and I need to copy it for future use. And I’ll share it here.

Still tired, tho. I see some crocheting before I collapse. The ruana I made was not good at all, so I’m un-knitting it and reusing the yarn to crochet another ruana that should be a bit more dimensionally stable. I hope. We shall see.

Oh, I got a check from the little store for January sales - all pottery! A whopping $41! It was a surprise - I honestly didn’t expect to sell anything. I also expect to get a pile of texting mitts back, but I’ll fancy them up and send them back next fall.

I need chocolate. :frowning:

I got a second granny square done. This one went very quickly and came out almost perfect! I’m gonna granny square this whole skein of yarn and then I’ll decide what to do with them.

**Spaz **- you’re braver than I! I’ve made a few afghans out of squares, but mostly I hate 'em because I hate sewing them together when they’re done. I don’t to strips for the same reason - if it can’t be made in a single piece, I’m not interested.

The search for an RV has resumed, and we may go look at a few this weekend. We shall see how that goes. We’ve also started looking for places we’d like to go in an RV. Oddly enough, **FCD **keep suggesting places around Sturgis and Daytona… :dubious:

MOOOOOOM I suggest you start suggestin’ five star resorts around Sturgis and Daytona.

When I turned 16 years old, my drama class threw a surprise birthday party for me. I really liked that.

But right now, I’m in a shitty mood. Bad things have happened to me lately. So I’m drinking alone in my room. I have a bottle here, a whole bottle. I haven’t even bothered with a glass - I’m swigging it right out of the bottle.
takes another sip Mmm, tastes of grapes.

Good ol’ Welch’s Grape Juice.

A friend in Taxachussets sent me this picture showing what two feet of snow looks like.

I’m also going back to last week’s MMP: so sorry about your friend’s son, Taters.
:frowning:

Also, I remember that flytrap made me chuckle several times, but I never made it in to tell him so. So now I did.

Re: Surprises

Received: My team gave me a series of surprise events the year I turned 40. There was a theme to each surprise. It was quite entertaining. The chief architect of that surprise works somewhere else now. When I turned 50, she got a bunch of coworkers to sign a birthday cards with anecdotes about how we’d “met.” I quickly figured out that it was a joke (I’m very good at remembering names), but it took me a while to figure out the instigator. In any case, it made me laugh for hours.

Given: When my mom turned 80, my cousins, my brother and I conspired on a surprise party. I visited for a long weekend in April and we managed to get a tour of the facility where my cousin wanted to have the party without my mom figuring anything out. (One of her classmates was the architect who led the restoration of the place, so we got her really focused on seeing the work while quietly discussing possible details in the background.). When it came time for the party, we had a family discussion about where we were going out to dinner and “went” with a restaurant near the actual venue. Traffic was horrible and I think we told my mom we had to stop into the club to wait for someone. She was very surprised when we finally went into the room we’d rented and she saw all the friends and family. It was awesome!

It is Monday. I am not as blurfy as I could be.

ETA: Also from last week: I’m also in on the picture tour if you come to Columbus, Cap’n.

Hugs all.

Right now, DH is disinclined to believe the discharge instructions that say “Tylenol may be taken if needed for discomfort.” I think his preference now would be for Vicodin.

oh geez another surprise for today
I got a safety recall notice for my truck.
And I made $20 over so one company I did some work for is sending me a 1099. At least the mileage on that job makes it a loss.
Anyway, I know you asked for nice surprises.

On my 30th birthday I sent my mother a dozen roses at her office.
She was very happily surprised.

Dinner was good ( Gotta love Dumpster fries!) & **PB **doesn’t have to work tonight after all, so time to go watch the rest of Pickers & Pawn Stars! Later, all!
Oh & (((taters)))

Dumpster fries? Dare I ask?

House shaking from idiot running little snow moving device about poshing back the piles—hey idjut, it’s midnight, GO HOME!!!

Oh my gosh, I absolutely hate being surprised! It makes me nervous I guess is the best way to put it. Or maybe I just am too nervous to be surprised. Whatever!

For my Dad’s 80th birthday, I contacted the White House to have them send a card signed by the President (you can do this for anyone turning 80 or above, btw). I did the submission via email, though, and did not get any confirmation, so had no idea if the card was really going to be sent. That’s why it ended up surprising my Dad … that and they sent it out a month early! :smack: At least he did get the card, and he was very pleased with it, too. I don’t know for certain, but I think he actually thinks that President Obama signed it.

It has turned cold in NM again, and this week we’re supposed to get stormy weather and maybe some snow in ABQ. There will definitely be snow in many of the mountain ranges, although there are places that won’t get anything. ABQ may get an inch or so overnight tonight. There are more storms on the way. We need the moisture, no matter what form. LOL

Happy (almost) Tuesday all!
