White House, citing security concerns, sez public Easter Egg Roll will be replaced with smaller event for families of military:

I know it’s not really correct, but for some reason I can’t shake this image of GWB peeking out from behind a curtained window, wondering when the hell all those kids are gonna get off his lawn.
Nor can I seem to prevent myself from thinking that this year’s invitees are from a group presumed to be loyal to the CinC. I know that’s wrong. Hey, why not reward the folks who did the grunt work in Iraq?
We, I’m sure I’ll get my mind right sooner or later. Where’s my tonic and gin?

I read a similar story and got the same sort of uncomfortable feeling, too, so it’s not just you. This isn’t really a big deal, it’s just another sign of the Bush White House (Mark II)'s attitude towards the public/media/whatever, like the lack of dinners and events held at the White House: these are not the worst things about this presidency (IMHO), but they are still sad to hear about. It’s a poor attitude for a president to have, I feel. I acknowledge that there are security concerns; however, how is the country supposed to put on a bold face amidst the threat of terrorism and go on with our lives if the man who purports to be our leader doesn’t try to do the same?
Maybe I should just have a gin and tonic too…
At least it’s not being called a Spring Egg Roll.
This is another example of weeniedom taking over our country (see also my post on “Get a Damn Life You Weenies”)
