The "Things I remember about McDonalds" Thread

McD’s Memories:

~I had to eat at McD’s in Frankfort, Germany to be able to have a beer and a Big Mac. Quite the novelty.

~When we were on vacation, my (then very young) son was thrilled to discover there were McDonalds in other towns!

Yes, I know you can still get one. but as I said, they aren’t on the menu anymore. They used to be two seperate items on the menu. Geez, I’d hope you’d be able to ask them to take cheese off a burger.

Yep… that’s pretty much why I was joking about hijacking my own thread!

as a new employee, I worked at a company in Oak Brook IL. A co worker was retiring and the boss said “lets take old Joe to McDonalds for his retirement lunch”. I was mortified, what kind of company had i been hired into? Well as it turned out it was McDonalds University, (a.k.a. Hamburger University) where they ship McManagers from all over the world to train into the cultish religion of McWorship. The dining area for the “University” was ultra posh and not a burger to be had anywhere. Indoor waterfalls fire places, paintings and sculptures everwhere. Also beer and wine available. Oddly enough though, it was serve your self cafeteria style.

HEY!!

Born at the Royal Columbian, raised on the New Westminster/Burnaby border. Surrey girl, indeed!

Hold on a minute while I get this black leather jacket off…Hey! Come back here!!!

I’ve spent a fair amount of time at that McD’s too. We lived in MR for nearly three years.

Does anyone else refer to it as “Rotten Ronnie’s” ?

A few years ago a whole bunch of people from my church used to hit the Kingsway and Edmonds McD’s every Sunday. We referred to it as “Second Service”. They’ve all bailed for Wendy’s now, though. Cheaper, and we finally ran out of free fries coupons!

Well, see, the point is that they are actually two separate buttons on the register computers (at least when I worked there years ago, they were). Because a QP WITH cheese is more expensive than one without. And you shouldn’t be charged for the cheese if you’re not getting it.

In Canada, where they still use beef tallow, the small fries come in a greasy paper bag.

McDonald’s is your kind of place
Can’t find a parking space.
Hamburgers up your nose…

Used to love the free birthday cake, all white icing, they’d chip in. Had a lot of birthday parties there, with sickly sweet orange drink.

I like McDonald’s. Few places in Canada offer free drink refills (de rigeur in the US). They almost always have newspapers too. I eat there twice a week, but less often since Fast Food Nation (an analysis which has its own problems).

Bumping to quickly report:

The McD’s at 57th Street and 6th Ave. in Manhattan, a no-frills kind of place, has chicken fajitas, 3 kinds of salads, and Quarter Pounders under that name.

Also, Big D’s are off the dollar menu and on the regular at regular meal prices.
