Too prophetic! I’m gonna kick Tommy’s ass!
Thank God for the defense. Now it’s up to the offense, specifically the chump under center, to win the game for us.
I’m not holding my breath.
There are no words.
We are two games behind Cincinnati.
Cut him. Tomorrow.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am going to drink myself into a stupor.
Wow! That actually hurt to watch.
Hurry back Ben!
How bad must Charlie Batch suck? Why keep him on the roster if you aren’t going to bring him in at a time when he was so obviously needed? We couldn’t have done any worse with Randle El at quarterback. Fucking FOUR turnovers, directly attributable to one player. FOUR. There are rarely better examples of one guy losing a game for you. Here was one.
And Cowher is as bad a head coach as they say when he makes decisions like he did today. Not only does he stick with someone who is so completely a liability, as Maddox was today, but they start showing some success with the no huddle - so they stop doing it. He’s always had problems pulling the quarterback, but usually it was with his first stringer, so you have to think about confidence down the road and all that. At this point, if Maddox is going to be wounded by pulling him out of there, he’s useless anyways.
And at this point, he’s useless as well. He should be gone tonight.
Well, I wouldn’t cut him for one absolutely horrible game, but I have a feeling the depth chart is going to be rearranged. Horrible, horrible play. Definitely hoping Ben is healed up next week! If we win next week we’ll only be a half game back, so we’re OK.
It’s been a while, but he played only slightly better than this in the game the Steelers lost to the Houston Texans a couple years back. Not only did he turn the ball over four times, but think about how many times the Jaguars dropped interceptions. He also hit his own lineman in the helmet with one of his passes. I’ve got no problems concluding that he cannot be relied upon to back up grandma’s Dodge Dart, let alone an NFL football game.
Sure, Maddox sucked, but have a look at the Steeler run game this week. With the exception of two +10 yd runs (12 Parker and 16 Maddox), the backs gained an average of about a yard and a half per carry. You can’t expect miracles from a substandard pass game when the run game doesn’t exist either.
Looking forward to
To seeing a healthy Ward and Roth
And if we lose we’ll be 3 games back, possibly in a tie with Cleveland or Baltimore (or both) for 2nd place. If we can’t beat the Bengals our hopes of even getting a whiff of the Super Bowl are done.
I think that Pittsburgh will demonstrate that Cincinnati is playing way over their heads next week. With Hines and Ben back it’ll be a sure thing. A tie for 1st is not a bad place to be.
BTW, is Tommy Maddox still a Steeler? Has he been released yet? If he hasn’t been cut I consider that a travesty after this afternoon’s debacle. I can only take consolation in one thing: the Patsies are 3-3 with two losses in a row. I think that Buffalo will take their hearts in two weeks. I rather like watching the demise of the Patriots. It’s about time.
Anyway, the season is not in jeopardy. Even at 12-4 Pittsburgh will make the playoffs, perhaps even 10-6. That I’m not worried about. What I am worried about is the Colts. If their defense is for real I don’t see how they can be beat. Then again, I didn’t see the Pats and the Eagles getting spanked around last year, either. We’ll see.
Well they certainly weren’t getting spanked around in the playoffs, which is where we always have a tendency to choke. I just pray to God that if we get to the AFC Championship again, it’s not in Pittsburgh. The fans don’t deserve to suffer through so many playoff losses at home.
He’s another one on my ass-kicking list. He and Randle El are just lucky that I have a 10 inch wound on my belly!
I too was gratified to see that Pats lost. Now we just have to kick in and play the rest of the season.
Maddox continued to be exceptionally disappointing in his post-game discussion. Unlike Roethlisberger, who hasn’t seemed to have too much problem acknowledging when he screws up (except perhaps for the mystery of the broken toes), Maddox was quite Bushian in his distribution of the responsibility to anyone but himself:
http://media3.steelers.com/article/57965/
On the final interception:
“I thought that even if he jumped, that Quincy would be able to get in front of him. Well he (Mathis) made a good play; he jumped around him.”
On his fumbling away of the chance to kick a winning field goal:
“I didn’t get it clean and I don’t know for what reason. I thought I had it but I kind of bobbled it. When I was turning around I thought I was about to control it and kind of bumped into Danny (Kreider) and lost it. I was just trying to pick it up so I could just throw it away.”
Before the game, I was quite hopeful, because I thought that Maddox had done fairly well in his preseason appearances. Unlike Cowher, however, but like everyone else on the planet, it was pretty clear from early on that a change needed to be made. Now I’ve lost even more respect for his inability to step up and clearly take responsibility.
Just out of curiousity, do any of you listen to the Steelers podcast you can get through iTunes? It is often interesting.
I think it’s just one loss in a row - they beat Atlanta last week.
Good news: CNN is reporting that Ben will definitely start agains Cinci, and Batch MAY move to #2 on the depth chart.
Well that was a good ol’ fashioned butt-whipping!
Steelers looked shaky at the outset, but what a fantastic second half. The O-line played beautifully and the defense didin’t give them a darn thing until the final drive, when the game was already well out of reach. Good job on the D coming up big when it counted, and the running game was in fine form. Beautiful run by Parker to line up the nails in the coffin, and Ward hammered them in.
Great game! Who’s next?
Damn I really wish I could have seen the game. Too bad I leave near Philly.
