Two reasons. The “ball breaking the plane” rule does not apply in own endzone situations. The knee being in play by rule makes it down in play. Additionally, forward progress, Manning’s own impetus didn’t take him into the endzone. It was the correct call.
Ahh…yes, I see. I wasn’t thinking about foward progress.
It seems that the Colts have decided to go with a more balanced defence – now they’re sucking equally badly against the run as the pass.
(Gutsy call on the 4th-and-2 by the Colts, though).
Manning is lucky that worked. That took some balls. Not many other QBs in the league would be able to get away with something like that. Maybe Favre but that’s it.
Dont’ forget Kyle Boller.
I think Cowher is about to chew the face of one of these refs. Steelers got lucky on that no-call. These refs are pretty shaky today.
How are your hearts, Steeler fans? Pittsburg taking enough chances for you?
Whew, unless there’s a rule interpretation I don’t know about that was an awful call on the INT.
And now the Colts come alive…Wow.
Pass defense WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?!!!
WHAT THE FUCK!
And our all too familiar defense returns. Jesus Christ you guys.
I thought that the purpose of instant replay was to get the call right every time. Jesus Christ.
Absolutely fucking horrific call. For fuck’s sake.
Polamalu [sp?] wuz robbed. Jeezus Christ on a pogo stick, I can’t believe the officiating of this one. Totally unacceptable, esp. for a playoff game.
I’ve been in *fish markets * that smelled better than the calls in this one.
Oh my god! What a game. A freaking fumble?!?!?!!!
Unbelievable.
Wide Right!
I guess I could live with Pittsburgh making the Super Bowl this year.
Karma’s a bitch…
There were literally a thousand different things I was preparing to write here depending on who won.
But after seeing the last 5 minutes of game time…I’m simply speechless. I’m in too much shock to be happy yet.
What a finish- one of the all time classics. Big Ben made the play of his career on that touchdown saving tackle. Congrats, Steelers.
Yeah evidentally there is a new rule that to have possession you have to get both knees down, your rear end, then another knee, then get up, and then make a football move.
