Forget my father! I thought I was giong to have a heart attack for a while there!!
I’m glad we pulled it out. Bettis deserves better than to have his career end with a nearly disastrous fumble. I’m still trying to figure out why we didn’t just take a knee for the last series.
Oh, and Rysto, thanks for cheering us on, but it’s Pittsburgh with an “h”, as in “heart attack,” “He fumbled?!” or “Hallelujah! It’s wide right!”
All I can really say about the game is that fucker Pete Morelli should never, ever, ever, ever referee a football game again. NFL, college, high school, Canadian, soccer, pee-wee…I don’t care. Three awful calls and lots of other bad ones. Asshole.
That was a pretty enjoyable game after all. Congrats the Steelers and their fans, who seem to be in abundance here. I would think there should be even more Bears fans, since the newspaper that hosts it is in Chicago. I’m kind of rooting for the Bears, in this one, but maybe they’ll win anyway.
I wonder where Vanderjet will move to. I think he’d probably be welcome in Pittsburgh.
There was something like a minute and 20 seconds left and Indy had three time outs left. So we take a knee three times and give them the ball with a minute and 5 seconds left? No, you have to try to punch it in and go up by more than one score.
The Colts still had all three time-outs left so the Steelers couldn’t have run the clock out by taking a knee. Even if they had taken three knees and kicked a field goal, the Colts would have still gotten the ball back, only six points down and with time to score. Running for the end zone was the obvious call, and pretty low percentage that the Bus is going to fumble. All the odds favored the run call but the odds are never 100%, obviously.
I have to say…I would have been so pissed if Indy had won, not just because the Steelers have been my team since birth, but because the Steelers outplayed the Colts the whole game. Sure, Manning got his two solid drives in, but we knew we couldn’t stop him the whole time. Absolutely AMAZING game by the defense today. That last touchdown should never have happened because, as mentioned, that was the absolute WORST IR overturn in the history of football. Complete bullshit…that should have ended the game there. PLUS the blatant pass interference that would have set up at least a field goal, and with the way our offense was clicking, a likely touchdown. Shame on the Bus’ fumble, which nearly caused cardiac arrest on my part, followed by another near incident on pre-field goal try.
Overall…way to go STEELERS!!! Ben looked awesome today, and saved the season with his acrobatic last second tackle. Polamalu played great, getting that sack on the 4th and 16 and, well, he really had two INTs, but neither counted.
One would think, but I remember him fumbling in the Jets game last year in the playoffs in a crucial time as well.
Seems to me that Jerome’s ball security is similar to Peyton’s ability to win: virtually guaranteed in the regular season, but in the playoffs, all bets are off.
Great game, great win. Go Steelers!
Personally, I can’t stand the Colts. Whiny finesse team in a dome? “Waaah, the Patriots chucked our receivers, waaah, make it a priority to call PI after 5 yards, waaah!”
Fucking sissies, I’m happier than a pig in shit that the Steelers won. I have a feeling the Black and Gold may get crushed in Denver, but damn, talk about a fun first two games to give the fans in the tournament.
My BIL is having quite the storybook football season. Lifelong Steelers fan, and equally rabid about his alma mater (sp?), Texas. Go Longhorns! Go Steelers! I’m happy for him.
P.S: So I wonder if Peyton said anything to his idiot kicker in the locker room? Maybe: “Don’t get liquored up next time.” hehheh.
I don’t really love or hate either of these teams, so I was just hoping for an exciting game. So I’m happy and congratulations to the Steelers, they really did outplay the Colts today.
I’m also really happy that the Steelers ended up winning after that crazy overturn on the interception call. Seriously, if the Colts had ended up winning, that would have gone down as maybe the biggest blown call in history. I was not looking forward to hearing about it for the next 20 years
The only thing I can tell is: thank god for the play-calling by Manning.
The best drive they had was entirely run-driven, and yet, somehow, they only got 3 points of it. They (not the Steelers) should have continued that throughout at least one drive.
But, since the QB calls the plays, that was never truly a possibility.
Apparently Indy fans were leaving the stadium after the (overturned) interception with five minutes to go. That is effing pathetic. Fans like those don’t deserve seeing their team go to the Superbowl or even the conference championship game.
Were there a lot of Steelers fans in the RCA dome? I was very surprised by the crowd noise in the game. (I listened to the whole thing on radio while driving.) It didn’t sound like a very good home crowd to me–there was a lot of noise on Indy’s offensive possessions.
I think I’m going to have to get on the Steelers bandwagon, since I like them the most of the four teams remaining.
We haven’t agreed on much in this thread, Hentor, but I’m with you here. Terrible showing by the refs.
Anybody catch Manning’s post-game statements? “I’m trying to be a good teammate… let’s just say we had some problems with protection.” Must not have been trying very hard there, Peyton, 'cause it’s a pretty lousy thing for the team leader to be pointing the finger after a game like that - especially a team leader who had a pretty shaky performance himself.
Regardless, the Steelers came ready to play. I have to wonder about Ben’s arm - seems like even Cowher would have mixed a few play-action passes into those final series, especially the way Roethlisberger had been throwing the ball earlier in the game.
