I was in Pittsburgh for the first one, but I was only 4. This was the first one for which I was back in Pittsburgh!
Best line of the night goes to Mike Logan, Steeler safety and Pittsburgh native:
“I’m going to Kennywood!”

Oh good. That way at least one man truly has “one for the thumb”, and not just symbolically!
And now, there is one final stop for The Bus.
Canton.
Alright Airman!
The Steelers actually used to be my childhood team to root for. Terry Bradshaw is from my hometown of Shreveport, La. so he was a pretty big hero down there during the 70’s dynasty. My mom went high school with Bradshaw and knew him slightly at the time. She told us he was a fantastic athlete, and a nice, humble kid, but dumb as a box of hammers. Anyway, my mom avidly followed his career so that meant we all followed his career. For me, years came right in the sweet spot for when a kid is becoming a sports fan- between the ages of about 9-14. have some pretty fond memories of watching those games with my family. The games against Dallas were particularly memorable since that was the other Shreveport team (Dallas was closer than New Orleans, plus the Saints always sucked).
I still have a bit of a soft spot for the Steelers, so this is nice. I’m happy for Bettis and Cowher as well. They guys’ been around for a long time and always been cosistently good. His teams are always playoff contenders, year after year. He’s an underrated coach and maybe the ring will finally get him some recognition.
Whoa, Oakland’s getting a bit out of hand-there’s an overturned car in the streets, and a few fires. They’ve got the mounted police!
I also saw Jerome Bettis carrying his little girl in the press conferences-she’s so cute!
Congrats out to Pittsburgh, Airman, and all the Steelers faithful. You put together an incredible run, and provided some very memorable football.
You also provided me with 700 smackers…thanks Steelers!
FTR, I was wearing black pants and a yellow shirt today…
Huge congrats to Airman Doors! Shame the game was marred by bad officiating. Football fans deserved better. Glad to see the Bus go out on top!
Congratulations Airman, Steelers, and Steelers fans!
Much as I am disappointed in the refs, we would have lost fair and square. Bad coaching, and Matt, Matt, what the hell was that at the end? And our receivers… ah, well. ~sigh.
I have to go eat my hawk and get some rest so I can welcome them home.
Good job, Pittsburg.
I thought it was a very poorly played game and officiated even worse. That push off called on Seattle to negate the touchdown was an extremely marginal call. On the Pittsburgh TD, looks like the ball either crossed or didn’t cross the line by a margin of 5mm or less. The call was close and could have gone either way, but when the official at first looks like he’s spotting the ball about 6 inches short and then later signals touchdown, it just looks bad. Then the block below the waist was another poor call. Also, some of the spots for first down at times seemed either generous or stingy.
Clock management and poor kicking played a bigger role in the Seahawks’ demise. It sure seems to me that when you get inside of 8 minutes and you need two scores, that just maybe you should be coming up to the line and getting your plays off with some sense of urgency. Not a hurry-up offense, but not the time to act like you’ve got all the time in the world.
Living in the heart of Brown’s country, it isn’t easy being a Steeler’s fan. You sure can’t buy much black-and-gold around here! But being the Mom of 3 sons who only buy Heinz ketchup…
Congratulations to them, and to all you long-suffering but faithful Pittsburg fans. It was a long time coming, and so sweet!
It looked to me like that ball was way underthrown, but the reciever made the right adjustment to get under it. Still, he did an excellent job to stay on the right side of the line of scrimmage and just wait there for a reciever to get open.
Well, all of Airman’s hard work in starting these threads has finally paid off.
Go Steelers!
How does “One for the Ring Finger of the other Hand!” sound for next year?
Coming in VERY late to the party…
Damn straight, catsix. What a game! The first half was a little slow, but boy did someone light a fire under the Steelers’ butts during halftime. I have to hand it to Seattle, they played a good game, but you could tell Pittsburgh just wanted it more. They’ve been fighting for a trophy all through the post-season, and it paid off.
This team should be a lesson to all those owners out there who fire their coaches after one mediocre season: winning teams are built over time, not bought.
Congrats to the Steelers, and I think this has to go down as one of the greatest runs in history. They won 8 straight must-win games, and in there beat the 1, 2, and 3 AFC seeds, and the 1 and 2 NFC seeds. Not bad
Agreed. This was a very impressive string of victories for the Steelers. I think that the run, not just the Super Bowl win, will get Cowher a slot in the Hall of Fame after he retires.
I thought this was one of the worst Super Bowls ever. Props to the Steelers, but neither team struck as being very impressive.
For those of you who keep saying it wasn’t an impressive win…the three previous were real pretty, but the end result is all that counts. Scoreboard, baby…scoreboard!!!
Wooooooooohooooooooo!!!
(And my prediction of the under being the iron-clad lock…right on!)
Can’t say I’m as happy as Airman Doors is - not that many people are - but my co-workers tell me I did win the Super Bowl office pool. (And if Seattle had scored on either the Jackson TD or the drive that was called back, my 21-17 prediction would’ve been perfect.) So here’s three more cheers for Steeltown!
I figured it’d be a close game, and it looks like I was right. Face it, folks. We had the longest run for a touchdown in Superbowl history, followed shortly afterwards by the longest interception return. While I would have preferred not to have seen the latter, I don’t see how any one can say this wasn’t an exciting game.
I watched it on the edge of Oakland, Pittsburgh’s college neighborhood, with a bunch of friends, and afterwards people were honking and cheering like you wouldn’t believe.
It’s been a good run and a good season. Now all I have to do is find the energy to get through the rest of today!
An exhausted but happy,
CJ
