It was a great game. The offence played much better than I was expecting, having shown little in pre-season. The defence made the big plays, but I thought were a little weaker than I was expecting. None-the-less, it was a fun game if you were a Steelers fan.
The Steelers were 7 point favorites. Why are you saying the Titans were favored?
All in all, the Steelers looked pretty good against their scrub opponent. 34 whole points, eh? That’s almost in the Giants’ league!
All I have to say about the Jets game is:
Fielder! Fielder! Fielder!
All of the previews of the game that I read were saying that the Titans were going to beat the Steelers today. I’m not as concerned with the line as I am the opinions of these self-styled “experts” who were shouting the Steelers down.
While I’m here, I might as well point out how right I’ve been so far about Boller. 1 pick, bupkis for yardage, and the Ravens haven’t even sniffed the end zone, and this against the Colts defense. If this is how he plays against an average (at best) defense, I can’t wait until the Steelers get a hold of him. He’ll be lucky to walk away with his life.
The fourth stringer, Parker, he didn’t play too poorly either.
Once again, you’ve very accurately restated my position. Kudos to you, and extra marks for maturity. Meanwhile, five catches, 76 yards and a score, since you bothered to bring it up. I think it’s safe to say that you’ve crushed me with your grasp of the game.
Yeah, my bad. I don’t know what I was thinking about. But he is the third-stringer. Verron Haynes was bumped to fourth-string this week.
Well, Boller got eaten up and is out for a bit with a foot problem, Anthony Wright was the suck in relief, and the Ratbirds’ defense was taken to school by Peyton Manning.
Anybody still think that Pittsburgh won’t win the division?
I think they will, yes.
I’m trying not to be overconfident about anything other than that. Injuries can happen, Ben is still young (though he looked great), and the playoffs are the continued bane of our existence.
That said, I’m pretty optimistic this year.
Congrats to the Steelers faithful…if they get past New England in Week 3, I’ll give them better than even odds to break the Pats’ consecutive regular season winning streak.
In other news, Sunday was a very nice day at the Briston household…
Uh-oh! Things are looking down for the Steelers! Big Ben is questionable for Sunday and it looks like Maddox will be starting…
It’s the Texans. Maddox is quite a capable backup against a bottom-feeder like Houston. Hell, he’s quite capable in general, if not quite as good as most starters in the league.
Fearless Prediction (that I didn’t actually back up in any of my pick’em leagues): Either the Steelers or Eagles will fall in a big upset this weekend.
Not gonna be the Steel Curtain, I would bet. Even if all of Pitt’s offense self destructs, ain’t nothing the Texans got that will get thru that D.
Serious, Houston’s O-line is weaker than my baby sister’s sleeping infant. Ludicrous.
Philly is scary, tho. They made some goofy mistakes against ATL. Will they fall deeper into stupid mistake-ville or will they get their act together and start piling on the points?
I don’t know. I’m wicked unscared about Philly. They’ve got a big indiscipline problem – for example, the T.O. debacle, the pregame brawl, that awful 60-yard air ball McNabb threw (on the play where he was drilled) that missed his receiver by about ten yards and was intercepted.
You’re not giving enough props to New England here. They’re incredibly disciplined at all levels of the organization, they’ve got the best coach, the best quarterback, the best kicker. Yeah, they have some holes on defense, but that’s just like deja vu all over again.
Will not be the Steelers losing, if you want an upset go with Carolina winning against the Pats.
That one, I did make in my pick’em leagues.
And keep in mind, the Texans are undefeated against the Steelers…
…in their one-game history.
Which, while it didn’t exactly speak to harmony in the locker room, had nothing whatsoever to do with a breakdown in discipline. He showed up, he mouthed off, he got sent home, and he shut up.
during which two Falcons threw punches and Hall ripped Trotter’s helmet off, but no Eagle retaliated with anything more than general milling around…
Throwing an interception while being speared in the xiphoid isn’t exactly a discipline issue as much as it is an issue with the laws of physics.
That’s all very good, but the post you quoted didn’t have anything to do with the Patriots.
Jimmy, I’m not persuaded. The T.O. issue isn’t just one instance of mouthing off, it has to with letting a poisonous and disruptive player into your locker room in the first place. On the brawl, I don’t know the particulars, but the refs felt that Trotter was involved, or they wouldn’t have thrown him out. And as to the interception, McNabb never should have been throwing that type of pass, given how heavy the pressure was. That was like a desperate Hail Mary pass in the last few seconds of a game you’re going to lose anyway. McNabb not only threw an interception there, but he opened himself up to getting nailed. All quarterbacks make bad decisions at times, but even at that, this was a BAD decision.
Look, you’ll never find a bigger Eagle-hater than me, but you’re smoking crack if you think the 49ers can beat them. Don’t talk about the Rams game; all NFC West games are highly competitive nailbiters. Doesn’t anyone remember my division rankings from last year? 33% against the rest of league, the NFC West was. 33%. (Shameless plug: The new rankings are up, btw, in case you all missed it. It dropped to the second page within hours.)
And even though the Tommy Maddox is no J.P. Losman, (can you feel the sarcasm sreaming through?), I’m sure they’ll be able to handle the Texans.
heheh, this cracked me up. I’m picturing a blooper reel of the Eagle’s Monday Nighter set to King Crimson’s Indiscipline. (“I wish you were here to see it!”)
Not very active on the SDMB these days, but good to see this thread still going strong this year.
Go Steelers!
