I would have put this in my Hobbit anticipation thread, but I guess it is closed. Huh.
Anyway, the third hobbit is now coming out in December, when it was originally slated for late summer.

What happened to the second Hobbit movie?
It comes out in December. Ah, I see. I mean the 3rd one comes out in December 2014, not 2013.
December being the Premier Movie Month, this actually speaks well of their hopes for it.
A Tolkien movie in the summer feels like Christmas in the summer. I’m glad they moved it.
I hated the first Hobbit movie so much (while loving the book, LOTR, and the LOTR movies).
I hope it gets pushed back to forever.
Seriously, New Zealanders, export cinematic love letters to your beautiful scenery and we’re happy to have Flight of the Conchords, but keep your freaky-ass summer Christmases to yourselves.
At least they aren’t splitting it into two movies.
Arg, lay it out. The grog be dimming my wits.

Thx, bye.
squeegee, apparently the plan used to be:
Hobbit P1: Dec 2012
Hobbit P2: Dec 2013
Hobbit P3: Summer 2014
but now the plan is:
Hobbit P1: Dec 2012
Hobbit P2: Dec 2013
Hobbit P3: Dec 2014
. . . which is what I thought the plan was all along.
P.S. I’m impressed you can keep any wits about you at all, what with all the constant garlic fumes.
Hobbit 2 shows on date: December 13, 2013
Hobbit 3 shows on date: December 17, 2014 (was set for July 18)
Don’t give them any ideas. There is plenty of time for them to do that!
Thanks, guys.
And what bienville said: I already thought it was one movie each December, which is why I didn’t follow the “pushed back” narrative.
The summer release thing was most likely to appease fans and the studio for splitting the movie into three.
I’m sure they are working on the second one and realizing it will take right up to November to finalize it. They will probably work on film 3 until November as well and realize they can not make an earlier release.
Maybe then Peter Jackson can get another job I think only he can accomplish and we’ll see this schedule -
Dec 2015- The Silver Chair
Dec 2016- A Horse and His Boy
Dec 2017- The Magician’s Nephew
Dec 2018- The Last Battle
Don’t forget the fourth one:
The Hobbit Part 4: The Credits
And then you have people like me who LOVED The Hobbit and, as far as I am concerned, they could stretch this out to 35 full-length films.
I don’t mind waiting until December (again) for the third installment. Gives Mr. Jackson time to wrap it up right.
And yes, I will most certainly buy the extended versions of the three film series and happily sit down for the entire 46 hours or whatever and watch them all!
I hope he didn’t bang his head on the table.
I hope the altered schedule doesn’t keep Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch away from their Sherlockian duties any longer. That series was supposed to start filming in January but was put off to allow them fulfill their movie obligations.
I’d also add in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, seeing as the one that came out last year was a piece of shite. Odd, as the first and second movies were not bad (the first was very good, in fact).
