The Thread for Lamenting Your Cancelled TV Shows

Probe was cool. Completely cool.

Brisco County Jr was another brilliant show.

Samurai Pizza Cats.

No, I’m serious.

It was a very well-done cartoon. It looked like a kids’ show, but it had some intelligent humor. And the way they did it was pretty amazing. Unfortunately, it got pulled off the air before I got a chance to really get into it (the show had really poor marketing from the beginning), but later I found a bunch of Pizza Cats resources on the internet, got a few RealVideo episodes, and now it’s my favorite TV show. Unfortunately, not only are there no new episodes being produced, it’s not even on the air at all (unless you live in Elbonia.) I could go on for a long time about the Pizza Cats, but I’ll just stop here.

I remember watching the pilot. I missed the first five minutes. What was the riddle that the woman solved to get into Parker Stevenson’s lair?

For a brief while, my great “family bonding” time was when mom, dad, and I would watch “Snoops” and “The Practice”.

I miss Snoops. Stupid, hackneyed… but it had Gina Gershon and lots of mindless fun.

Homicide: Life on the Street

A promo for the final episode praised it as one of the most critically acclaimed dramas on television…so of course NBC had to cancel it. I am pained to see Kyle Secor on City of Angels. My poor Bayliss.

Hmmmm…

Barney Miller

The Greatest American Hero

Get A Life

CHiPS

"The Adventures of Pete and Pete"

An old show that used to be on Nickelodeon, who has a reputation for killing off good live-action shows after a couple of years. You can think of it as a kids “Malcolm in the Middle” but the family was emminently more likeable. I can’t begin to remember all the people who made guest appearances there : Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, Lucious Jackson, Suzzy Roche, Janeane Garafolo, Michael Stipe, Bebe Neuwirth among a whole list of others. And, of course, it featured “Artie, the Strongest Man in the World,” a character that network TV would never allow you to feature.

Am I out here by myself? Did anyone else feel slighted when this show slowly faded away?

BOSOM BUDDIES. With a cast that included Holland Taylor, Donna Dixon, Wendy Jo Sperber, Thelma Hopkins, Peter Scolari, and an unknown Tom Hanks (!), this show deserved more than two years.

Barney Miller is now on TVLand at 8pm est Mon-Fri!

Tailspin
Duck Tales
Gummi Bears (I loved the after school lineup ok!)

and of course…The Straight Dope

There was this one show on during the summer called “Mind Your Own Business” about a high school student, I think, who’s searching for her relatives and she finds her aunt. She’s sarcastic and cynical and it was a funny show, but it was only on for a couple of episodes.

Speaking of Nick, I liked “You Can’t Do That on Television.” And I loved “Alf,” and “Perfect Strangers” before Balki and Larry met those two blondes and moved out of their apartment. I remember I was pretty young when they showed the episode where their kids are born, but that’s the last episode and you never really get to see their children.

Thx Mr. Blue Sky, but I’m in Canada (with basic cable)

Although, it’s yet another good excuse for me to get that satellite I’ve always wanted…

Aaaargggh! I FORGOT Bosom Buddies!!

How could I?

Guilty. Although in my defense, I thought Galaxy Quest as whole, sucked. It sucked whole, if you will.

I miss Forever Knight too, they reference it all the time on Angel, but that just makes me miss it more.

I think the most current loss I’m feeling is Jack of all Trades. Bruce Campbell needs a series like that, and I need to be able to watch it on a regular basis.

I’m also a huge Tony Shalhoub fan. My favorite TV appearance of his was the X-files where IIRC his shadow killed people.

My first thought when I saw this thread title was Brooklyn Bridge. An excellent show that deserved to be on TV.

I also want to chime in with Stark Raving Mad. Tony Shalhoub was great, and I loved the episode that guest starred Steven Weber from Wings as a stalker.

Another vote for missing Sports Night. Stupid TV execs wouldn’t know a good show if it unzipped their pants and gave them head.

I also miss Bruce Campbell on TV. I’ve been a fan of his since Brisco County Jr., the show that led me to the Evil Dead Trilogy, which I now own.

I bemoan the fact that MS-CL was cancelled to anyone who will listen. That show represented everything teenagers go through - well, what I went through anyway. I have almost every episode on tape, and boy do I love them. The episode where Angela finally hooks up with Jordan but breaks up with him when he pressures her to have sex - that should be shown to every 15 year old on the planet.

Not only was it beautifully written, relevant and smart, it set a positive example for people in that age group. I was 13 when the show premiered (and was canceled); thank God for MTV or I would’ve missed all the classics.

I show anyone who has never seen the show the very last one of the series - where Angela finds out that Brian wrote her the love letter, not Jordan, but walks off with Jordan anyway. Poignant, touching, truthful. It’s funny to watch now that I am older, but it was painfully real when I was 15.

A hearty fuck you! to whoever had that show canceled.

Freaks and Geeks was also incredible, although I honestly only saw about six or seven episodes. I would have liked to see it go on for a few more seasons.

Meanwhile, the socially and politically boisterous show Full House showcased the tragedy and realism of DJ Tanner and Kimmy Gibler for eight straight years and launched the questionable careers of the Olsen Twins, who are to acting what Kathy Lee Gifford is to designing. Good call on that show, guys.

I’m sorry for the hijack, but I think this is just screaming to be a sig. I’m not sure if it needs to be mine though.

MTV’s The State. It was a sketch commedy show that was fricken hilarious.

PLEASE no! I never watch MTV unless I’m in the mood to hurl rotten vegetables at the screen (or it’s the first episode of the first season of the Real World. After that I tend to lose interest).

How embarrassing. Ya’ll might think I like…Britney Spears or something. Blech.

The discussion for what was once relevent entertainment and is now teenybopper bullshit belongs in another thread, methinks.

But remember when they used to play real, actual, rock music?? God I miss those days.

My post was in reference to Slackergirl’s post, not Guiny’s. Hope that was clear.
