I love my +100% Xray laser. I never came up against the “not experienced” problem. They just offered me the missions. Don’t know what you’ve done wrong, especially if blasted through a flock of Helios. Have you dabbled in the black market or accidentally shot up a Commonwealth station?
In a separate question (spoiler it if you feel it’s necessary), does anybody know how to buy the more expensive fuel (helium reactor kit or something like that, not the rods) in the later systems? I’m getting sick of having to run back to the fortress to fuel up every time I go a-blastin’ through the system (I’m energy intensive because I’m not real selective about aiming). I’m guessing it has something to do with the Black Market, because they pretty much don’t like me because I’ve been squeaky clean so far. Suggestions?
Anyone played Knytt? Quite a fun little independent platformer. It doesn’t have much of a plot, and certainly no narration or interaction. I’d best describe it with a few adjectives:
First of all, there’s some decent spoilers at schtuff.com
As for the military ID, you need to run a few military missions and establish a military rank. You can find missions at some, but not all, Commonwealth military stations. As evidence of your rank, they’ll give you a military ID chip.
I did that in an earlier game. The problem I’m having here is getting in to see the CO in the first place. Or is “only experienced captains” their way of saying “we don’t have any”?
There are quite a few Commonwealth carriers about you can do missions for, you get a new rank every few missions. They’re handy later on when as their docks can handle more advanced armour and they take Commonwealth credits, something that a lot of the more advanced races don’t later on.
The Korolev people have barred me, permanently it would seem too, I can’t remember what mission I’ve fouled up on them
And by destroying a station belonging to a certain sect, I came across an object that warped me to a system containing gates to every other system before it. I gated to a system further on but am unable to go back now to earlier systems. It gets good later on, the bigger ships and weapons make themselves available
I’m currently equipped with an omni-Tev9 blaster which is handy in a dogfight. Whenever I can, I install the big guns I grab from the superior ships.
Tremulous is a really addictive FPS based on the Quake 3 engine. It’s a bit like the Half-Life mod Natural Selection, if you know it. It’s pretty polished for an amateur game, too.
I destroyed that station last night and got the object you described. It warped me to a dangerous spot that I was not ready for (damn you very slow Mammoth shields!) and got my butt absolutely kicked. I thought about resurrecting again, but without knowing how to get back to where I was, I think I’m just going to start over.
it’s silly but i couldn’t bring myself to do it =\ i don’t know why…
once you’ve killed all the stations, the korolov begins rebuilding at the old spot near the gate. can’t remember if there’s a reward.
so much for the warning sign…
it’s not all bad though. if you don’t mind skipping some content/backtracking or generally taking a shortcut through the game, this is actually a quick way to upgrade your stuff. despite not playing the game much at all, my humble freighter now flaunts a blaster that shoots three independent omnidirectional shots; a 700hp shield; and armor that is mostly immune, resistant or reflective to most type of damage…
all these from the garbage collecting runs while i was working my way back to Commonwealth territories amidst the constant war and debris…
And they’re moddable for extra fun. I’m biased, though, since I spent oodles of hours playtesting both of them (along with the rest of the Digital Eel game library).
