The Thread of Self-Horn-Tootingness

 Big fucking deal.

OK, I’m a bit impressed.

Now I’m curious. We all are.

Tell the story. You want to. We want you to. You know we want you to. We know that you know that we want you to. You know that we know that you know that we want you to.

You know?

We’ll all be all the more impressed if you start the story with “So, I decided go for a space walk and fall to Earth…”

Taking too long for my level of patience!

Thanks for the YouTube link. It confirms the validity of my incredibly cogent and incisive statement about your work, i.e. holy shit!

Congrats. Only one more to go! And then some sort of professionalism course too, I assume?

Unfortunately, my girlfriend is not a scholarly source.

Indeed, you are a great artist!

Four out of five papers that I turned in for my classes this semester came back with notes that I should publish them. Now I just need to get off my ass and find out about submission guidelines…

Since you’re lookin’ for braggin’…

I remain The Best of the Worst.

And something I am equally proud of, because it’s a much more personal thing, one of my coworkers asked for a copy of one of my computer art images, framed it nicely and hung it in her living room.

Aw, shucks! :stuck_out_tongue:

So you got my card, then?

Oh hell, you’ve seen the original painting. It’s hanging up in my office.

I think my new boss realizes why my old boss kept me around for so long.

I was always known as the Jane of all trades. I don’t have one job and my tasks switched often. I was given new things a lot and I have to say I adapt well to them.

My old boss was let go in April and my new boss has thrown a lot of new things my way just to see if I can do them and I have handled tham all.

The lastest being a task she actually taught someone else first and let them tackle it for a week or so. She then decided to teach me as well as a third back up person and I grabbed the task and ran with it.

Not only have I created better documentation then chicken scratchings we got to begin with but I have created extra notes, cheat sheets and organized them all on the network so they can be accessed by everyone.

I have heard no less than three times that tasks she has given to another employee I have handled them better. I think her words were “Sally seems to be able to do this stuff but she is not real comfortable with it and you seem to be able to handle it with confidence”

It is nice to hear that I am doing a good job and she is impressed with skills I already have or new ones I have learned.

My old boss hardly ever gave praise unless of course it was to herself. It is nice to feel appreciated.

I just hope it reflects in a decent raise.

I did well on my salary negotiations yesterday. I work for the governemtn and we have had a 3 year agreement that expired in October.

Yesterday was my time to go in and negotiate with the boss. She offered me 7 percent to which I said no. I then proceeded to argue why I am worth more than that. While I did not get the 20+ percent I wanted I feel rather happy ending up with a 15.5 percent raise since it is twice what she originally offered. We have a revision point in 14 months where I plan to kick it up further (if I’m still here).

February is going to be a good month for me when the new wage starts being paid out along with 4 months retroactively since October.

I can tell.

I put on matching socks this morning.

I don’t think you ought to mock unless your Swedish is very, very good. :stuck_out_tongue:

This morning I was listening to a CD of our band, which I joined as a founder member a fortnight after picking up a trumpet for the first time ever and the first brass instrument of any description in twenty years. At that time I’d never had even one lesson on any brass at all and didn’t even know how to hold a trumpet properly. Our first public appearance was another two weeks after that.

My end-of-year assessment on my first Open University math unit was 96%.

Wow. I’d be impressed enough if you’d said “meteorite”, but that’s a step or two up!

Tack så mycket.

Our office had a photography contest this fall. (We’re a studio of school photographers.) I entered four of the five categories, and took first place in ‘Icons’, and third place in ‘Landscpes’.

I want to paint both of those scenes. What lighthouse is that?

In that case, carry on.

I, too, got promoted. I am now, incontrovertably, “The Man” - no, I don’t mean all puffy-chested ego-driven struttiness (I’ve never been able to pull that off, and am not about to start trying). No, I mean that at my company, when people get frustrated and rail at “the man” - I am one of those being railed at. Fortunately, we are growing like a weed and everyone is doing well, so railing has been kept to a minimum…whew!

Congrats to one and all for their cool news - and I, too, look forward to hearing about the meteor earrings…and pics!

Awwww… thank you! We were rather chuffed at being able to act like bats for a whole day, although the prices to hire that outfit were ruinous. Apparently ties over the front of the hood is standard procedure here in England; no one seemed surprised to be dressed in this way.

I have to say that’s pretty cool stuff. I think handmade jewellery is always much more interesting than commercially the commercial kind. I also like the photography there; it’s not easy to get take good photographs of jewellery.

I really like the first one; the lighthouse. Lovely sweeping curve of bay there.
