If memory serves, they used a flashlight as the light source. With new batteries.

Memory serves. When Professor Chromedome is describing the lenses he talks about them focusing the light of a candle, but the actual heat beam is created with a flashlight. Which is odd, you’d think they’d have used a candle after referencing a candle.
