The old cartoon The Tick had one episode where the supervillain tried to write something on the surhace of the moon with a laser. He was foiled halfway, and in all the subsequent episodes, the moon had “CHA” written on it. Does anyone remember who the villain was, and what he was trying to write? Actually, I’m sure someone remembers. Will someone please tell me?
I remember he was trying to write “Chair.”
I think the villain was called “The Chair” or something like that.
I think the villain had a chair for a head.

Chairface Chippendale was trying to write his name across the moon. Happened the same way in the original comic book too.
The villain was Chairface Chippendale, and he was trying to carve his name.
The villains name was “Chairface Chippendale”, and he was trying to write his name on the moon… but he was stopped after the letters “CHA”.
Later, a chunk was taken out of the moon, leaving only the letters “HA”. Damn, I miss that show.
It should also be noted that in a later season, the planet gobbling being “Omnipitous” tood a large bite out of the moon as well.
Actually wasn’t it Duran Duran, and weren’t they trying to carve “Rio”?
Charo Wanted for Questioning
Seven minutes, seven responses, two of them smart-assed. Not bad. Thank you all very much.
Tick was part of a mission to the Moon to remove Chairface’s grafitti. He successfully deleted the C through the use of explosives, but in the process Tick was blown into space, where he met Omnipotus. Omnipotus did take a bite out of the moon, but the bite was from the other side.
BTW, (this may have been posted but I can’t remember if I read this here or somewhere else), the animated series is gonna be released on DVD this year!! Yay!!!
If you have Toon Disney, you can catch The Tick every night at 11.
And another fan of the original comic checks in.
Three cheers for the DVD release! This is the first I’ve heard of it.
“Nothing to see here…just a fence…”
I had to go find the link 'cause for one brief horrible moment I thought I might have dreamed the news. Anyway, from TvshowsonDVD.
Best news I’ve heard all week. Thanks!
Are you sure it was a laser? I thought it was one of those 1920’s style “Death Rays.”
tremorviolet, today you are one of my very favorite posters. Simply smashing news, that. Outstanding!
To be perfectly pedantic, it was the “Geismann Heat Ray,” an experimental ray created by focusing the light of a single candle through a series of powerful lenses.
One o THESE?
If memory serves, they used a flashlight as the light source. With new batteries.
