Is it ever explained, either in the comics, the animated or the live-action TV series, why The Tick chose this particular battle cry? Or is it just a funny, incongruous and nonsensical thing to shout in the midst of superheroic struggles?
On the animated series, when the Tick decided he needed a battle cry, he happened to have a spoon in his hand. I think he was eating breakfast. Hence, “Spoooooon!”
Tick: We must choose battle cries!
Arthur: You mean like, “Not in the face! Not in the face!”
Tick: Eh, lacks force chum. No, something more like… like… Spoooon!
Arthur: I don’t get it.
Tick: SPOOOOON!
Arthur: Eh, I’m just a side-kick.
“Spoon!” is the only clue to who he used to be. Once, the Tick was a man of great power. He led a revolution. He remade the world. But, the work of changing the world destroyed his mind. He has vague feelings that what everybody else calls reality is not actual real. He remembers an important lesson, something to do with spoons.
Perhaps one day he will remember the lesson, and remember that there is no spoon. Until that day, Neo remains lost in his Tick delusion.
I’m sorry, but the ads for this thread are especially hilarious!
Rid your yard of Ticks!
ROFL
The Tick also has the superheroish habit of commenting on what he’s doing in the midst of action. For example, while pulling Arthur out of a black hole: “Must . . . defy . . . laws of physics!”
