Is it just my imagination, a flashback, or some other organic misfiring of synapses? Does it seem to anybody else that the Board is experiencing another influcks from the hysterically rightward end of the spectrum?
I dimly recall this sort of thing has happened before, and is usually mercifully brief, they arrive, they blither, they vanish. Yet I wonder what the causative thingy might be. Sun spots? Obama? Do other message boards recruit trolling teams to harrass the reality-based community? And why us, why couldn’t they wait for Daily Kos or *Move On *to start over the bridge.
Is it the recent move towards “free” posting, these suckas are too cheap to bother us if they have to pay? Is it seasonal, like the cicadas or head lice? Have they offered us any sort of ransom deal, they’ll go away if we give them some money, or lupins?
Who are they? What do they want? When will they leave?
Lemme see if I can…ahem, elucidate that for ya, luci.
It’s a surge. Now that the board is beginning to draw from the public at large, a more representative percentage of conservatives is beginning to appear.
We still have a way to go of course, but the tide is turning and I’m [del]afraid[/del] hope that the days of the SDMB as a clique for rabid lefties are numbered.
As of my writing, Page 1 of the Pit is now showing about 10 threads that are anti-McCain or anti-Palin, vs. only 1, I think, that is anti-Obama. GD is running along similar lines. If there’s a rightward lurch, it’s not showing up in the number of threads.
Yes, maybe there’ll be an equal mix of rabid lefties and righties. Thoughtful posters will be in much shorter supply. I think I’ve seen exactly one new conservative in GD so far that’s had something interesting to say.
Interestingly enough, there has never been a recorded case of self righteousness or nagging by the conservatives. At the last convention they only had nice things to say about their opponents, then had warm cocoa with marshmallows while they sat around singing Kumbaya. The weekly lovefest that is Fox News alone leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy all day.
I think the return to free posting is bringing them back. I welcome them. Disagreement is the gasoline of the SDMB. Without it, it just lays there. If I wanted to post in an echo chamber, I’d go to Kos or Free Republic.
Hey, I’m serious, or sort of semi-serious, not important enough to be serious about, but I’m not making shit up, or anything. Just seems like we’re bumping along pretty much normal-like, then suddenly there’s about half-a-dozen or so of them, beamed down like an away team from Star Trek, except all expendable ensigns. A very few stick around to be permanent fixtures, mostly, they just take a good hard drubbing and piss off.
It appears to have a cyclical nature, but I’m curious as to what triggers it, or if anything triggers it at all. Not gonna name names, that would be rude, and you all know me as the very soul of civility and reasoned discourse.
Oh, man. When I heard those Republicans saying they wanted to bring more hot chocolate to the convention this year, I got a completely incorrect impression.
I’m not sure that it’s just the conservative extremists that are coming back. I recently had the pleasure of seeing someone, with all apparent sincerity, accuse TVeblen of being a mindless drone of a neo-con.
I think that there are a lot of people coming back with the removal of P2P who wouldn’t have ante-ed up before that. I suspect that part of what you’re seeing, elucidator, may be attributable to selection bias. IOW, it’s not just a Tighty Righty surge, but a surge all along the spectrum.
