VanGo please report back on the shawarma. ![]()
Evening all. Managed to avoid nappage so should sleep well tonight. Working off and on on the Firday triple Sudoku, will get it solved before sleeping, so I can concentrate on the Sunday paper puzzles. Dining out Sunday is Red Robin (Yum!). Heading for 18F tonight but up to 55F tomorrow.
Most of my clocks will reset themselves (I just looked at the wall clock here and it’s already moved an hour ahead), but need to do the stove and microwave before heading off to bed. Watches can be reset whenever, and the car clock shouldn’t take more than 20 seconds.
shoe, not a jalapeno fan, but those do look good.
OK, finish up the internettin’, solve the Sudoku’s and read another part of the Schock Mercenary webcomic archive reread. Currently on Book 10, "The Longshoreman of the Apocalypse (Have it in a 8x11’ comic book–about 200 pages).
Take care all.
Wifey had her leftover steak for dinner. I had the leftover pesto salmon and steamed yellow squash. Yum.
(Goo also had some salmon. And she discovered I’d put catnip in the cardboard box in the living room.)
Darn good, probably could have marinated in the yoghurt a bit longer, and left a bit more on for the cooking. It was yoghurt, lemon juice, cumin, sumac, paprika, garlic, shallot, salt and pepper as the marinade. Wrapped in a tortilla with some tahini, tomato, and tzatziki.
without spellcheck I never would have gotten to tzatziki. I mean I know what it is, and I’ve made it many times before, but I don’t think I’ve ever tried to spell it.
shoe Sorry you missed the end of the InCrPo, but it sounds like you’re doing (nudge, nudge) just fine.
Thank you, and I have no issue with him gaming. It’s times like now that hubsandcide comes to mind. I understand and I can sympathize. Murder hasn’t been ruled out, though. I’m encouraging him to try to revive his dead comp enough to go online. That might allow him to get it up and running again. Not so we can cancel his spiffy new one (that certainly isn’t going to happen), but so we can have a spare in case he needs it.
You betcha! I did it once and I’ll do it again!!!
Hubs has been keeping up with the legal side, apparently I didn’t wack the jerk square on the head like I had thought. According to the cameras the jerk turned his head in time for my cane to slide down his skull and break his collarbone. He’s not going to be slapping anyone with that hand for a while!
Apparently, I am in the clear legally, but there is no way to tell if the jerk is going to try to sue me for damages in civil court. At that time, our lawyer (who is entirely imaginary at this point) can subpoena the recording that is being kept as evidence for the jerk’s assault case.
Oopsie, please keep us up on your tattoo fading thing. I have one on my hip that is all sorts of smeary. Nobody sees it but me anymore, but I’d still like to do something with it.
Good for you keeping it up. So many people get all motivated and inspired, then just fade away. At our age, we are in a use it or lose it situation, you are doing good!
I’m really wishing you guys would stop playing with your clocks. It was a real pain when I was working, I’m going to be hearing about it tomorrow when hubs is trying to get a hold of tech support again.
I say it every year: can we just pick a time and stick with it? Pretty please, with whipped and a cherry?
It is currently 31 degrees Amurikun, with a wind chill of 21. Mind you it did snow on this date in 2017, so the weather isn’t any more schizophrenic than normal.

I couldn’t agree more. Cue my semi-annual rant: “Standard, Daylight, split the difference, pick something else altogether, I really don’t care, just pick something and STICK WITH IT!!!”
Arizona doesn’t play DST, but the Navajo nation does and most car clocks will automatically correct while driving through a reservation. It can get very confusing to see the time change three times on a hundred mile drive through the same state.
Can you guys please just stop this foolishness? Pick a time and stick to it, people will be happier, pets will be happier and children (who are people who don’t understand time anyhow) will be happier.
purplehorseshoe, I am going to set a reminder to make those doo dads the day after Easter. I give up meat for Lent, and I find it even harder to do that than for sweets or beer.
One of my top ten favorite movies is on right now on TCM, Chariots of Fire. I am still amazed, after forty years, that a movie with no sex, violence, bad language, fights, and so on, won Best Picture. It also won three other Oscars, and was nominated for three more. Sure, there was a considerable dose of fictionalization. but the basic stats of the games were real. And the note that Jackson Schulz passed to Eric Liddell was real. Schulz was still alive when this movie was made and I saw him on TV mentioning it.
The Ms spent today doing the taxes on Turbo. Somehow we’re getting about $1800 back (fed + state), mostly from the latter. I hauled our seldom-used appliances up from the basement and stowed them in the kitchen for the packers. The rain swept back in this afternoon.
Dinner was meatball subs from 24th & Meatball. They make a nice meatball. And I made brownies for dessert. Time now for a basketball game, and hoping the Blazers don’t lose by 35 again.
Oh, my gosh, I need to vent. I got another letter from the IRS. Despite the firm assurances of both my financial guy and the CPA I had to hire last August that I do NOT owe the thousands the IRS said I did, this letter says I do, and the penalty is still there. PLUS there’s no form to send in to appeal, merely a phone number. Hah. I tried your phone # last summer, IRS, and you said you were not answering the phone, period. Ya think I’d believe you’re going to answer NOW, during tax season?
So Monday I’m going to call the CPA, who is probably hip-deep in more lucrative tax stuff, and beg him to please make the call. I’d do it, but I don’t remember the right terms for why I don’t owe the money. The form I got in the mail said the money is due immediately. I’d like to slap them…with a penalty. They should pay my CPA costs, plus interest. It’s not like I have a lot of money. This is retirement money I invested to help keep me from having to live under a bridge.
OK, rant over. Now let join the grumbling about Daylight Savings Time. No, Facebook Friend, we do not get an extra hour of daylight. We just steal it from morning. My sympathies to teachers and parents of young kids. I well remember how trying that endless week post-change is.
FCM, Toby is SO handsome! Oh, those merry eyes! I’m glad FCD doesn’t have to have surgery. I hope the alternative is effective. Also, I hereby award you two your merit badge in knot-tying.
MetalMouse, kudos on the gym accomplishments!
shoe, argh! You needed closure. I hope ICP is asking himself why he keeps having sexy dreams about that hot shoe person at his old job. Also, the chicken looks amazing!

You were a teacher…Mom was a teacher. You are having the IRS demanding money despite having a CPA say otherwise. Mom is having the IRS demanding money despite having a CPA say otherwise.
Are you both part of the Teachers Pension system? Mom was and she was in CA, but she has said that a lot of other states use it as well.
Weird day: we needed to go over to the lab at Kaiser so DH could leave some blood with them. Parking wasn’t anywhere near normal degree of difficulty, and zero wait time from walking in to walking back out with DH bandaged. Hours later, I went over to the nearest Walmart I’ll voluntarily go to (the one that’s actually closest is horrible), to find the parking lot half-empty and not a lot of shoppers in the store.
In most public places in my area, masks are now a matter of personal discretion. Felt surreal to see so many bare faces in public (Kaiser, of course, does still require face coverings. Being a hospital, fair enough).
4 bucks a gallon seems to be the tipping point about just jumping into the car and going to the store for a few things.
This is one of the reasons I can’t tell hubs to go away and ride his motorcycle. The other is that it’s cold and his comp is broken and he needs to deal with that no matter what. Le sigh.
Spring is here and there were a couple of ring necked doves dating right outside the window. I tried to cover GG’s eyes because he’s too young for that, but he wasn’t having any of it so I covered mine instead. Should I be adding anything to the treat tray to help her shell development?
The yard flock is a big source of entertainment for cats and the human who isn’t busy saving the world from demons.
It’s usually recommended to have a calcium grit available to birds for this. Easily had at pet stores.
So THERE’S where my doppelganger is! I’m so sorry she’s going through the same thing. I do get a pension from the State of Wyoming. That’s not why the IRS has its collective knickers in a knot, though. Fingers are crossed for your mom!
Today the mask mandate was lifted. I was in two stores. About 70% of people were still masked. I’m not sure if that’s because they’re unaware the mandate was lifted or if they’re opting for continued caution. I suspect more the former than the latter. It was SOOO nice to be maskless! I can’t wait to go maskless to the gym on Monday.
We saw that was available and resisted the temptation. Probably will start it next weekend.
Have to go walk to the farm store to get cackleberries. They had gotten some new hens, and they weren’t producing as well, so I had gone back to the store. Seems that problem has disappeared.
Yesterday I did some work in the garden. As we haven’t had any precipitation for weeks, it was like digging in cement. I hope we get something soon, but the 5 day forecast is not promising.
Hubby’s feeling better so we’re going to a Greek restaurant for lunch. Nice to get out of the house.
Shoe, those look amazing. Looks like a fun recipe for a summer evening with alcohol. I set a reminder for May, when it should be quite warm.
I’ll behave!
Europe changes clocks in 2 weeks, so now beginnith the 2 weeks of confusion when making phone calls and meetings.
Hubby’s making lattes, and it’s time to eat breakfast. Enjoy the Sunday!
Up for an oddly-timed bio break. Started sneezing uncontrollably, so now my sinuses are too stuffed to sleep.
Last time I got a sneezing fit, someone asked me if I might be allergic to cats.
… they got quite the glaring-at for that!
Heh. I never got around to changing the stove clock - I’m more interested in the minutes than the hour. So today, that “problem” solved itself!
I’ve done them with small pieces of onion - works, too.
I LOL’d. Dirty sense of humor - that’s me!
Damn, woman!
What a pile of nonsense. I’m sorry you have this additional stress right now!
Eh, I might have said/done something that I’d regret, like start tearing up & then pretending it’s “allergies” or whatever.
Thanks for the wishes, though … it’s a comforting sentiment.
I never knew this! Ye gods, that does make the confusion even worse!
{ *ah-choo!! *}
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 28 Amurrkin out (BRRR!) and clear with a predicted high of 57 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I shall have Verge duty, even though I was not supposed to today. The other Verger’s husband is in the horsepistol. When I saw his post about it on the book of faces I texted her and said for her not to worry about that so she can concentrate on what she needs to do for him. Oh well, might as well be useful sometimes. We shall return to da cave after deheathenization for sammiches. I shall make a pot roast in the slow cooker with N.O.T. and baby carrots. I shall also make some peas, butter beans, and okra as well as cornbread. We shall sup nummily.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
