The tradition of Reaction Videos

One of the new gimmicks to enter our current decade is the infamous ‘reaction video’. A reaction video is when a video is shown to someone (usually its some tween showing their parents or something) with the camera fixed on their reaction, not what they are seeing.

The advent of this, I believe, was with the video “2 girls 1 cup”, which was a notoriously disgusting porn video (which I casually nominate as “The Grossest thing on the Internet”). As gross as the video was, people had a lot of fun showing (or tricking people into seeing) the clip. About 1.5 seconds after this started happening, people started recording videos of their friends/parents/grandmothers reacting to 2 girls 1 cup. Pretty soon it was more funny to simply watch other people react to the video than see the gross video itself. And a tradition was born.

Since then, there have been a few other gross videos that have gotten reaction videos made of them. Its already reached critical mass, as its become impossible to look up anything relevant on Youtube anymore since the search result queue is just clogged with either reaction videos or people on Youtube talking about the clip (THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SEE  ).
