Canada has socialized health insurance. Yes, there’s a difference.
Unlike, say, the UK’s NHS, Canada did not nationalize the provision of health care. Doctors and nurses aren’t employees of the feds. My family doctor is basically a businesswoman who runs a partnership with a bunch of other doctors.

The Cheney view–that deficits don’t matter–was more defensible 16 years ago than it is today, given how much national debt we currently have, although I would argue that even then Cheney was wrong to say that.

If it was defensible to say 16 years ago that deficits didn’t matter, why was it so important to bring them down under the Clinton administration, which you’ve already credited to Republicans?
To hear Republicans, deficits were no big deal under Reagan and Bush the Elder, then they were a big deal under Clinton, didn’t matter at all under Bush the Younger, and then were a huge problem under Obama. I fully expect the current crop of Republicans to raise spending, mostly on the military (whether the Pentagon asks for it or not), cut taxes on the wealthy, and increase the deficit. Again.
Some view it as hiding, others view it as being held against their will.

Mr. Trump has shown himself to be willing to make hard, budget cuts when necessary; he currently is looking at slashing the State Department’s budget by 37 percent and the USAID’s budget by the same figure.
So he can spend $25 billion dollars on a wall and on increase military spending by 54 billion.
