Roe v Wade? It’s a moot issue anyway as many states have onerous restrictions against abortion to the point that the SCOTUS can’t really do much about it - or will deliberately punt on the issue.

What will change the calculus? Well, how about in 3 years when the interest on the debt skyrockets thanks to the GOP tax cuts while simultaneously waging multiple wars? The choice will then be: military, or social security. Entitlements are the biggest burden on the federal budget. So what it all means is that the MAGA generations will awaken to the reality that they’ve screwed themselves out of retirement. Then things MIGHT change.

Because the right will do what the right did then - reinvent history, conveniently forget everything the Republicans did to cause the situation, lay the blame on the Democrats (and immingrants and minorities) and keep voting GOP. ICE only exists because of 9/11 and the whole “Department of Homeland Security” thing. We didn’t need a specific agency for “immigration control” before, so why must we need one now? We were fine with INS and Customs.
I think a lot of Trump’s support comes from the middle age and elder generations, which is not to say that he doesn’t have support among younger folks. But it’s the older white population that’s buying into this culture war shit. A lot of these people complain about government welfare but why whine like little bitches the moment they get stiffed on their retirement. And that day is coming now, thanks to Trump’s (and Ryan’s) disastrous tax cut bill. Math is a thing, and it’s going to kick these people in the ass – the rest of us, too, unfortunately.
