The conspiracy theorist in me says Trump deliberately trotted this guy out to the UN for that exact purpose.
I’m guessing Putin has his fist shoved so far up Trump’s ass that he literally controls the movement of his lips. Almost every foreign policy move as of late seems to be beneficial to Putin in one way or another.
James Clapper believes that Trump is literally Putin’s asset, which means that for all practical purposes, Putin wields enormous influence within the executive branch. I suspect that he has knowledge of financial crimes, or he could bankrupt him somehow.
I disagree.
Conspiracy theories are based on poor facts and logic.
Trump deliberatly choosing someone unsuitable for a UN post is perfectly in character.
He actively wants to harm our reputation around the world.
To be more specific, he wants to de-commit the US to any international agreement, organization, or institution in which we participate: WTO, NATO, UN, NAFTA, and others. That strengthens the hand of authoritarians like Putin.
So I guess he would have no objection if England took America back.
I don’t think England would want America back.
We could adopt them! Ireland, too! Scotland? Think that one over for a while. No reason to rush into it…
Can we make them drive on the right as God intended?
Guiness and scotch? Hoot, mon, bring 'em on!
I think it’s really important to remember that this detention issue is part of a larger issue with the prison-industrial complex. The detention centers that are built, the contractors who supply them, have economic motivation as well as being part of a deeply unethical national policy and a form of Trump virtue-signalling to his base (yes, conservatives can virtue-signal just as bad as the worst excesses of the radical left, if not worse.) Could you imagine being a child and being separated from your family, held in an unfamiliar location guarded by men with guns speaking another language - I mean, obviously everyone posting in this thread can imagine this scenario or they wouldn’t be protesting. But can you imagine all that, and also realize that people are profiting from it?
There’s racism in this border policy, there’s no doubt about it - racism in Trump’s motivation for 1. ramping up the policy and 2. just talking about it. But there’s also the hands of corporate lobbyists.
I disagree with any ideas that Trump has some sort of plan.
Trump is nothing more than toddler with a machine gun that wants attention.
He is likely in serious financial trouble with the Russians. That much, he understands.
It’s clear that he doesn’t care about anything but himself. This is why you shouldn’t give a cranky toddler that needs a nap a machine gun.
Yeah, good deal, it’s been going so well for Britain and it’s not like we’ve always been rather ardent EU supporters (if only to piss off the Brits, admittedly. That’s why we do 50% of what we do.)
I only hope Jupiter is not dumb enough to fall for such naked* divide et impera*… but then again he doesn’t seem to like Trump very much and while he’s a complete asshole, he’s kind of a bright-ish asshole.
Putin’s puppet.
Trump is doing exactly his bidding:
Drive a split into NATO.
Drive a split into the EU.
Continue to describe Russian collusion with his advisors as fake news.
Deny Russian influence in election security tampering.
Undermine Russian sanctions by not enforcing congressional actions.
Get out of Syrian client state (actually good).
Weaken (even more) any US influence with Muslim nations.
Abandon trade pacts with allies throughout Europe and Asia.
Accede to Russian reoccupation of Crimea, portions of Ukraine and Georgia.
And, make America fight with itself.
What about the Mercers and the Koches? Presumably they expect something in return for all the money they spend. What are their goals and do they align with Russia at all?
The Mercers were involved in the campaign for Brexit and they were investors in Cambridge Analytica, which gathered information that was later used to create psychographic profiles of social media users to spread Russian propaganda. The billionaires want to gut the federal government so that they can control the economy and the political system to create a plutocracy. In addition, they embrace a foreign policy platform of isolationism, unilateralism, reduced international cooperation, and reduced attention to human rights.
The Russians are more than happy to help them do that, as it dovetails with Russian interests neatly. Russia wants an America that talks less about human rights. It wants an America that is less concerned with influence abroad. It wants America to play less of a role near its borders. The Kochs are on record as being concerned about the demise of trade agreements and international trade, so they don’t all agree on everything. But they agree fundamentally on many important issues.
Or BOTH. It is common knowledge that his money comes from Russian money laundering schemes - using real estate “deals” as the cover.
