I wrote as much in emails this morning after Trump’s press conference. I also wrote that if Obama had said those words, there would have been GOP cries for his head; where were those cries now that Trump actually had said those things?
A more minor point from today’s clusterfuck. Trump went after the electoral college again as being biased in favor of Democrats. Now, this is obviously nonsense, but why in the world would the Democrats not embrace that in and “in the interest of fair elections for Republicans” offer to work with Trump to abolish it.
Twice in the last 5 elections, the Electoral College has differed from the popular vote. In both cases, it did so to the benefit of the Republican candidate.
I think Trump’s statement could be used as evidence that Trump is mentally unfit to hold office.
That’s fine and true. But, if he is suggesting that it’s biased against Republicans, why not offer to help him end that bias? It would be hard to refuse that generous offer.
The above is post 1 of five tweets, one of which is this gem:
“I’ve seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people over my professional career and I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands.”
Joe Walsh: “It’s no longer about what Trump does. It’s about what WE do. This is the time to speak out. This is the time for choosing. America is in danger. Choose country over party. Choose country over policy.”
Newt Gingrich: “President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin. It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately.”
Nate Silver:
I think we need a scale for how much trouble Trump is in based on the most ordinarily pro-Trump Republican/conservative who criticizes him.
e.g. something like this:
10.0 Hannity
9.9 Pence
9.2 Fox & Friends
8.8 Tucker Carlson
7.5 McConnell
7.0 Laura Ingram
6.8 Gingrich
6.7 Coulter
6.1 Joe Walsh
5.5 DRUDGE
5.0 Paul Ryan
4.8 WSJ Edit Page
4.4 Ben Shapiro
3.6 Graham
2.6 McCain
1.4 Jeff Flake
0.1 Bret Stephens
0.0 Kasich
Someone please explain the Nate Silver scale to me (like I’m age 5) WRT “how much trouble Trump is in.” So the fact that Paul Ryan is at 5.0 means what?
Nate is measuring Trump’s trouble on a scale of 1 to 10 based on the leanings of the critic. If John Kasich criticizes Trump…that and $5 will get you a latte. If Hannity criticizes Trump, then they must be counting the votes in an impeachment trial.
So Trump is currently at 6.1, based on what this Walsh guy just said. Or 6.8, if you count Gingrich’s furrowed brow as “criticism”.
