Oh, he gives a fuck alright. Our established legal and political systems are threatening to hold him accountable for crimes and ethical offenses against the United States – they have from the start. But now as a result of the most recent elections, that threat is now a clear and present danger to him and his family. And it’s a threat to the oligarchs and the religious fanatics who have access to the levers of power. Their window is closing. They might disagree on the specifics of tactics and timing but they clearly have a shared interest generally in rigging the system. Trump is actively challenging the validity of the law, the validity of the Constitution, the validity of our electoral process. And he’s daring the rest of us to stop him.
People who sit around and say things like “We’ve been through worse,” or “Well I was alive when Nixon did this - we’ll survive.” People who say that don’t get it. They just don’t understand how dangerous a situation we’re in right now. This is the greatest danger this country has faced since 1865. And people who believe it’s hyperbole don’t understand how explosive a situation it is when people lose faith that democracy and the rule of law are valid. It’ll tear this country to pieces.
What if a sitting president defies the Constitution?
“We can impeach him!”
What if a sitting president defies the Constitution and the Congress helps him do it?
“We can vote the bums out!”
But what if we don’t vote the bums out? (and we haven’t in the Senate, by the way)
You find that person who looks at you the way that Trump looks at Putin when he walks in the room, and you hold on to them even if your friends look at that person the way all the other world leaders are.
(I think this is the picture that they use in history books to describe what was going on during this time period.)
Trump is a complete crook. Through and through. The thing is, is that he is such a moron and has been so insulated his entire life that he may not know it.
I didn’t. I hoped he wouldn’t be elected, and if elected, that our institutions would hold him in check, but I saw him as an authoritarian from the moment he oozed down the escalator.
But yeah, there were many who tried to reassure us that he was no Nazi, that he had no fascist tendencies.
Eh, I kinda like Bazis. They aren’t like hitler, they’re jyst like Hitler.
The leaders of the world marched side by side down the middle of the Champs d’Elysees today. Trump did not participate.
In a meeting back in April with the leaders of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, he criticized them for the Yugoslav war. Yugoslavia is in the Balkans. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are in the Baltic.
I’m pretty surprised that none of the usual suspects has come forward to give us the real reason of why Trump is a hero for not going to the ceremony at the cemetery.
