The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

Individual 1 says he would appeal to the Supreme Court if Congress were to begin impeachment against him. He clearly doesn’t understand how things work.

Let’s face it.

Current Republican leadership in House, Senate and Executive branch are perfectly fine with working with hostile foreign governments to disrupt elections, and gain hacked intel to damage their Democrat opponents.

They are EXPLICITLY OK with this. All of them.

Their only goal is to maintain power, and if they have to work closely with enemies of the country to do this… well that’s just fine with them.

There is no evidence that any Republican politicians think any differently.

Yeah, that’s one case in which he’d have an 8-1 ruling against him even if he gets another justice (Thomas would write the dissent).

I think they care about the law. They do want to keep the President who is of their party, and they do have a Republican agenda, just as the Democrats have an agenda.

They only care about the law when it is in their favor. They don’t care anything about impartiality.

I’ll go with that.

nm too obvious

No they don’t. The Republicans are quite, quite clear that if the President is a Republican, that means he does not have to follow the law. They law does not apply to them.

I question whether the Senate would even begin deliberating. After all, we’re talking about the same Mitch McConnell who decided that “advice and consent” meant that we should do nothing about a SCOTUS appointee until after the 2016 election. I’ve no doubt that would be his response to an impeachment. *Let the American people decide by voting whether the president should even be bothered with the indignity of a Senate trial. *

But I don’t see that as the worst outcome. What’s far more disturbing to me is that this confrontation between the House Democrats and the President is becoming a Constitutional crisis in which the president simply ignores and outright spites the House’s constitutionally-held powers of oversight. This is very, very serious shit we’re talking about here, and it’s just the beginning.

Republicans are quite, quite clear that they like to have a Republican party King, with autocratic powers, who ignores the other branches of government. They grant him the ability to work closely with hostile foreign governments and/or authoritarian autocrats in order to retain power. It’s not a problem for them if he does anything illegal, since Republican presidents cannot be indicted, so that’s all good. This is where we are at now.

La loi, c’est moi.

Yes, I know it’s not what Louis XIV (may have) said, but I think it’s more appropriate to the current situation. Besides, it rhymes.

I think Huey Long once said “I am the Constitution.”

He doesn’t understand, because he doesn’t care to.

wait - correct me if I am wrong - the person being impeached doesn’t get a say in if they are being impeached - they may get to testify, but they are not part of the process itself in that sense.

In the USA you can try to take anything to court, no matter how stupid.

It doesn’t mean that any court will take up the case, but you can issue the request.

He is a central figure, like the subject of a firing squad. Essential, even.

Il Douche loves dogs.

Doesn’t actually own a dog. Dogs everywhere drool with approval.

Trump believes that he can either bribe, threaten, or offer the SCOTUS a better deal. “It’s just business as usual”

If he gets to appoint many more judges, that’s the way it’s gonna be.

The only time Trump would ever hug a dog is if it was wearing a flag.

Then he’d hump it, too.
