That’s the catch-22 of the Trump administration. Competent people keep screwing up by telling the truth instead of repeating Trump’s lies, but replacing them with incompetents only puts screw-ups in their place.
Trump thinks a tariff is like when you raise someone’s rent. Because he’s a fucking imbecile. (As are his supporters.)
So it’s sort of the Bizarro Peter Principle: Incompetent employees will continue to be promoted within the administration, but at some point they will be promoted into positions for which their incompetence can provide maximum usefulness for their worthless boss. Maybe we could call it the Covfefe Principle.
Trump sees that a large portion of the public is willing to believe anything he tells them. So he probably figures why waste the truth on these idiots when they’ll settle for lies. And then he gets annoyed when other people in his administration don’t see this and aren’t willing to tell lies like he does.
I get the impression that all of his statements are sales pitches.
And just as accurate.
Sales pitches from a guy who’s selling time shares.
…an official statement from the White House.
Click the link while you can, because I’m not entirely sure the post will stay up, because who the fuck knows who is in charge of your country at the moment. Because that tweet linked to this page:

Do you remember when people stormed the airports a couple of years ago to protest something the Trump administration were doing? I can’t even fucking remember what that particular outrage was all about now. That’s how this all works. That’s how the slide to authoritarian works. States are outright banning abortion and people can’t even be arsed starting a pit thread about it.
America is in fucking trouble and everyone has stopped fucking fighting. In the impeachment thread people were claiming we shouldn’t impeach because “we were going to have a hearing a week every week until the elections and that will keep the crimes of the Trump administration in the public consciousness!!!” Where are the fucking hearings? They even are going to allow Trump Jr to set his own terms for testifying. How many kids were really separated on the borders from their parents? Where did those kids go? Did they really stop separating children and parents? Look at whats happening in the courts and the appointment of judges. Look at the rate of change. Understand what is happening right now.
You guys need to fight. FIGHT. Get out on the streets. Remember what you did in the early months of this administration. Because you can’t let this keep on going. Nobody is going to come and save you. The Dems aren’t going to save you. The media are not going to save you. If you vote Trump out of office in 2020 you can fix this. But if you don’t then you guys are fucked.
This is fucking terrifying. This is a four-alarm fire and nobody is just shrugging their shoulders and going “meh”.
This is probably why:
…a must read. Not explicitly about the Trump administration. But important.
So, the White House is asking all the people banned from Twitter, Facebook etc for extremist hate speech to contact them. Imagine what a motley crew of reprobates, villains and malefactors that must be. If Trump ever wants to set up a contingent of Orangeshirts, then he has a list of names and contact details of people to fill the ranks all ready to go.
The (failed, Donnie.) attempt to ban people from entering the country based upon their religion.
You know I’ve been called a chicken little and the responses I got were something like “I called my congressman - what are you doing about it?!”
The problem that people don’t understand is that it doesn’t work. I was called an extremist and much worse when I said that we’re going to have to “get nasty.” And I said that because I recognized at that time, as I do now, that they will leave us no other alternative.
A lot of people are under the impression that “we’re not there yet” and that there’s still time. Bullshit.
The warning isn’t now. The warning was from 2008 until about 2016. The last chance to stop the right wing putsch using normal means was on November 8, 2016. We’re living in an authoritarian state now.
That’s why I’ve been telling people that the only way out of this is for people to be kicked in the nuts. That’s the only way we stop this. We need to be kicked in the nuts so badly and so many times that we finally wake up and put a stop to it. But we’re not going to get democracy back through a normal election. Ain’t gonna happen. Only when this country feels pain on a massive scale, like in 1931, will we finally put an end to this.
The people who were laughing at me, calling me out…I god damn guarantee they are the ones wetting their beds at night the worst.
Trump is an authoritarian. He doesn’t want the truth; he wants loyalty. Telling an unflattering truth is disloyal.
The Muslim ban.
“You will be educated…one day. And when that day comes, I will demand capitulation, obedience and incontinence.”
…I disagree. And I’ve been saying the same thing I’ve been saying on these boards longer than you have. I think this can be stopped. It has to be stopped. But it all hinges on the next election. It all hinges on the recognition that there is no bipartisan way forward. That’s why I think the current front-runner, Biden, will be a fucking disaster even if he wins. And I say this as a person who a year ago thought Biden was the best person to win the nomination.
You’ve got to fight. And I don’t mean “pick up a rock and break a window” fight. But “get out on the streets and make your voice be heard” fight. Support the people at the “grassroots who have never given up” the fight. Its about contesting every single fucking election, no matter what the scale is, to kick these bastards out of power whether it be at the level of the presidency or at the local school board.
Its about looking at the marginalised people. They have never stopped fighting. Because their lives depend on it. Most people aren’t fighting because they’ve never had to fight before because they haven’t needed too. Black people have been screaming at you telling you, begging you, to fight alongside them. 94% of black women voted against Trump. Roy Moore lost because of black voters. They haven’t stopped fighting. They will keep on fighting even if you’ve given up asahi.
I don’t think you know what “living in an authoritarian state” means.
No, actually, I do. Quite familiar with them. Spent considerable time in authoritarian states. There are different degrees. The interesting thing is that for the most part, people living in authoritarian states continue living life. The difference is, they just can’t challenge the government and change things as easily when they realize that their government is corrupt and incompetent. For the average person who keeps their mouth shut and scrapes by? A normal life, really. Poor maybe, but otherwise ‘normal’ poor. But for those who dare to challenge the authoritarian and who get attention? Well that’s a different story. They just…disappear.
Tell me, what is your experience in an authoritarian state?
