Do you deny that CBP was holding the children until a parent showed up and would not release them to a guardian? What’s your cite for that? Because the cites already provided say what I said: CBP would not release the children to a guardian, only to a parent.

I don’t deny that. A guardian showed up. Not surprisingly, not any old random person can show up and say “Yeah, their mom said I can pick them up”. They have to have certain documentation. What documentation they had does not seem to be available in any of the news stories. (Not the aunt that they came into the country with. New people who showed up at the airport)
Actually, Trump said “You had the Nobel prize” I suspect he thinks it’s like the Stanley Cup and it gets passed from person to person. Now he wants to ‘take’ it from Obama.
I’d be curious to know why he held that meeting to begin with.
It’s sort of like running on a pro-choice platform then holding a meeting with a bunch of fundies so that they can come to describe to you in the most grizzly details possible the process of vacuum aspiration abortion.
Either someone forced him to do it, or it was set up as a way to troll everyone to begin with.
Please, pay attention to background, historical context. Of course Trump doesn’t think Nobel Prizes are like the Stanley Cup. That’d be absurd. He thinks they’re like the WWE belt. You know, something that’s all fixed up from the get go and is just a matter of knowing the right people and agreeing to the made up story. And making pennies off the rubes.
I suspect he expected that this would be just a quick cogratulatory photo op. Like congratulating the winners of the superbowl he can congratulate the winners of the Peace prize and others who have recieved recognition, so he can post the picture on their Twitter feed. But then they just went on and on about all this depressing stuff happening in places he never heard of, using accents he can barely understand. Why can’t they just smile and talk about the prize they won?
While I’ll grant that Trump does occasionally mention some beautiful thing that he’ll create for Americans, I would vote that it’s fair to say that the most common thing he does when talking politics is to bitch about America and say that everything about it is horrible.
“Make America Great Again” is basically a slogan of, “This place sucks”.
Yeah. There might have been someone in his administration that explained this to him, but there is nothing on the other side of his ears. He can’t understand empathy because he can’t figure out what it is. To be a bit humble is very confusing for him too. Well not even confusing. He has absolutely no idea that there are others that have accomplished things.
It could have started out as trolling. But it’s also possible that Trump thought he’d learn how to get a Nobel Prize from the meeting.
Or that he’d maybe be awarded a Nobel Prize for the very act of participating in the meeting. It was a real sacrifice, doing something that bored him so much!
Presumably, when a child unexpectedly transitions from “accompanied minor” to “unaccompanied minor,”* airline professionals are prepared to handle the issue without the intervention of the CBP.
*i expect that this is a rare occurrence. But so was the incident under discussion.
