While not actually diagnosing somebody is understandable, I would like to point out that the Goldwater “rule” was generated in an era of three networks, multiple newspapers, extremely limited access to the politicians, very little archived video, with and by a generation that little understood publicity as we do now.
Today, however, “being yourself” and being public is far more the norm, and tracking a person as relentlessly visible as Donald Trump has been for 40 years and saying “this guy is exhibiting classic symptoms of X” isn’t, in my non-professional opinion, a disservice to the profession, the President, or the American people.
It really turned my fucking stomach to see “Mister Shit In His Pants Little Girl Fucking Draft Dodging Cunt” Ted Nugent defile the fucking White House with his foul fucking presence.
I was in the Army between 1973 and 1977. So I was one of those Commie hippy guys he wanted to shoot (he said that). My reaction then was the same as it is now —
I hope you fucking TRY.
Well, SRIotD started in March of '09. There have been lulls in Republican stupity worthy of posting about (I think are entire month or longer gaps in the earlier part of the decade, because you cannot always expect performance art to be steady and consistent). This thread specifically hinges on this administration’s continuing existence, which is not much of a certainty. Many of us would like to see this thread end abruptly (preferably soon) due to lack of relevance.
Well, at least there is one quantifiable way in which the Trump presidency has accomplish more in its first hundred days than all that proceeded it.
Just remember, what follows wind and lightning may be worse. Pence is at least marginally competent and just as vile. He and Jeff Sessions would love nothing more than to turn back the clock at least to the 'Fifties, and maybe the Eighteen-Fifties.
