The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

Prestwick airport is losing money. If the airport closes, it’ll be a major blow to his resort, which is also under-performing. He’s using the military to siphon money to the airport.

Also, having aircrews stay at his resort just adds more money to his bottom line.

It’s not about a few dollars. It’s about WINNING!! (How? I have no idea.)

It was also noted by individual military personnel that their per diem didn’t even cover meal costs at the Trump property. So either they were forced to pay the difference out of their own pockets or go hungry.

Canada’s third highest trading partner is the UK, but Canada is only the UK’s 17th highest trading partner. This would suggest an advantage to the UK, however, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the EU (think of it as free trade plus) is provisionally in effect, which reduces the UK from a worry to only a bother. If there is a cold Brexit, it will, according to Mark Carney, have a negative influence on the UK economy, so we’ll just send out Cynthia Freeland to do what she did to negotiate and close both CETA and CUSMA.

If that does not work, we’ll simply have Justin nicely ask Cynthia to please ask Mark to kindly transfer the Bank of England’s holdings to the Bank of Canada while Justin gives him his old job back and they all hold hands in a circle while singing Fifty Mission Cap and everyone in the country shed’s a tear for Gord and what could have been.

If the UK populists had the brains of their vicious chicken of Bristol, they would negotiate something like CETA that keeps trade doors open while not getting deeply mired in primarily non-economic matters. That loud guy in England is almost as much of a numpty --well OK, no one is as much of a numpty – as that loud guy in the God Frearin’ Gun totin’ Pussy Grabbin’ Shit Hole.

Yep. Vox has a recap:

The US military may have spent millions to help prop up a Trump resort
An investigation into the spending comes as Trump faces questions over his officials patronizing his properties.

The article also sums up a lot of other Trump self-enrichment.

NM. Already covered. Shows what I get for not reading to the end of the thread.

You don’t see how tanking one of the world’s largest economies might have ripples?

It never occurred to me that when a US military aircraft refuels at a US military air base, it pays for the fuel. But I suppose it’s necessary to account for which specific program or mission used the fuel.

That’s just an accounting issue, moving the costs to the proper set of books. The cost issue is because the US military is going to be buying the fuel from suppliers at a volume discount price, and transporting and pumping it with military resources, resulting in much lower costs than Prestwick is charging drop-in transient airplanes.

Out of idle curiosity, what’s the rating of Tan the Conman’s resort there?

11/10

The main golf course is a good one - it’s been used in the past to host the Open Championship. It was on the rotation to hold the Open again in 2020, but the R&A didn’t feel it appropriate for a Trump property to host their tournament. As for the hotel itself, I don’t know.

I guess it’s just an airplane but I would think that the ramp guys that are used to 737’s would be a bit surprised to have to fuel a C130. Wouldn’t that be a bit like an M1 pulling up to a Conoco?

Shrug, several of Spain’s airports are dual-use: the main use of the Zaragoza airport is military and the Torrejón Air Base acts as “Terminal 5” for Barajas in case of need, not as a daily thing but I got to deplane there once. Most airports have one use or the other, but the refueling part is the same.

Last time I flew out of Ben Gurion Airport, there was a Gulfstream with U.S. Air Force markings taxiing in front of us.

So thelist of projectsbeing canceled to fund Trumps wall is out.

A few notable entries.

At $402 million Puerto Rico is by far the biggest contributor because Trump never turns down the opportunity so hit someone when they’re down. Also they are practically Mexican so he’s fulfilling his campaign promise.

$75 million from canceling the upgrades to Eilson Air force base heat and power plant in Alaska, since upgrading and maintaining the 60 year old plantmight improve efficiency so that the plant would use less coal and have less emissions, and therefore piss off fewer liberals. Also its Alaska, what with global warming do they really need to heat the place?

$62.6 million from Fort Campbell Middle School because, being true red blooded children from the heart of real America, I’m sure that rather than a new school they would like about 2.9 miles of shiny new wall.

Yep. At the mostly rather-sleepy midwestern airport I worked at, they’d get occasional military traffic. National Guard helicopters, military transports like C130s, C17s, even a C5 one time (that’s a freakin’ huge aircraft), even jet fighters once in a great while … they refuel just the same as any aircraft that uses jet fuel.

Look, its right there in the Constitution! Congress has the sole power to raise taxes and decide how to spend it, then they hand the money over to the President and he decides whether or not its a good idea and whether he should spend the money somewhere else. The President is the Executive, if the Congress passes a bad law, he has it executed. Simple.

Many people are saying.

Trump loves the poorly educated.

All he has to do is look in the mirror.
