I’m Canadian, so I won’t be voting in your election. But my honest opinion as of today would be that if the Democrats nominated Buttigieg, Biden, Klobuchar or Gabbard I would likely vote for the Democrats. But I’d have to see what they campaign on after getting the nomination.

If the nominee were Warren or Sanders, I would vote for whoever was the best chance to stop them. In that case, I would hold my nose and vote Trump, because both Sanders and Warren are hard leftists with policy proposals that would do immense damage to the economy and to civil society. Even re-electing Trump would be worth it if it kept either of those two demagogues from power.

It’s kind of pointless to attack Trump voters by showing how stupid, or crass, or otherwise obnoxious he is, because most Trump voters did not vote for him because of his positive qualities - they voted for him tribally. Eight years of being called deplorable, mocked for ‘clinging to their god and guns’ and other culture clashes have convinced large swaths of Trump voters that it’s ‘us or them’. Hillary not even bothering to campaign in some of those states made that worse.

i’m anti-Trump, and I have tried to convince conservatives that he’s bad news. What you inevitably find is that they already know about his failings, and don’t care so long as he is the leader of the tribe. Democrats do the same damned thing, which is why feminists were either silent or supportive of Clinton while he was in power, despite the numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against him. As one prominent feminist at the time said, “I’ll give him a blowjob myself if he keeps working for women’s rights.”

So long as Trump keeps acting like the best friend the blue collar working class and fundamentalists ever had, and keeps telling them that they are the true heroes and backbone of America, they are going to keep voting for him, Just as residents of the big blue cities keep voting in corrupt assholes who declare themselves to be the champions of the poor while lining the pockets of themselves and their cronies.

And it doesn’t help that the current front-runner for the Democrats is an old lunatic Marxist/socialist who never met an oppressive left-wing regime he wouldn’t carry water for.

TLDR version:

• It’s not the fault of Trump voters; the mean words that lefties said MADE them vote for him.

• They all do it anyway - both sides are exactly the same

:dubious: I’m no fan of Bill Clinton’s misconduct with women, but it’s ridiculous to pretend that Republicans ignoring and excusing Trump’s across-the-board massive unfitness for his office is comparable to Democrats ignoring and excusing the private sexual behavior of Clinton as a generally competent, engaged and hard-working Chief Exec.

Even the four allegations of non-consensual acts by Clinton, which I take very seriously, are extremely minor compared to the overall misgovernance of the Trump administration.

The whole point of Sanders and Warren’s popularity (and even the surge of Yang) is that they are pledging to remove the kind of campaign contributions that corrupt the US system right now (and are not just saying that; they are refusing those kinds of donor), and have increased social welfare provision. Not to make the US a socialist country, but just more in line with social provisions in the rest of the developed world.

But for you…you hate corporate democrats, and progressive democrats, and think democrat voters are sheep for choosing…one of two very different ideologies, including one largely novel to US politics. Got it.

One interesting aspect of the Trump presidency is that it’s not too unlikely that we’re going to see a bunch of economic and social indicators jerk into a new position (for the worse) after he leaves office.

Dude marked up a map of Florida in order to not look stupid. While there certainly have been some unflattering numbers to come out of the Federal government under this administration, it’s not unlikely that there were a bunch which were successfully pressured into using dishonest math.
