You have to admire his optimistic spin. It’s mild, it’s OK, go mingle with the masses at SXSW! Not the downer interpretation that more people may be unwitting vectors algebraically increasing the rate of spreading.
The coronavirus epidemic is soon going to hit an inflection point in the United States - we’re totally under-reporting the health crisis, but it will spread and it will cause panic once it does. It will become an existential crisis. Once it does, this health crisis could become a political crisis. It’s the perfect setup for an authoritarian to declare an emergency.
That clown authoritarian in office has already declared an emergency. Of course, it wasn’t about any real emergency and certainly not related to the current crisis. But his minions lapped it up. They’ll love it when he declares yet another one over this “hoax”.
Or it’s the perfect setup to expose an incompetent buffoon for what he is.
If Trump was interested in seizing emergency power, he’d be trying to incite panic. Instead, he’s doing just the opposite – making ridiculously unfounded rosy pronouncements of “all is under control and everybody’s fine and go ahead and go to work.” This is somebody desperately hoping to prop up the stock market as his path to success, not someone fomenting a coup.
No, we are not. Granted a sample size of 30K is rather small, but so far, it is not displaying an epidemic/pandemic profile. The edge-case fatality distribution is more like a normal flu-like affliction. If anything, the “crisis” is being over-reported.
Yep. Trump has done a fantastic job. No need to listen to experts–it’s all a Democratic hoax anyway. And, besides, Trump is just cleaning up Obama’s mess. And the virus may not even exist–that’s how effective Trump has been–retroactive eradication!
I’m willing to bet if you put Tony Fauci (NIH/NIAID director of almost 40 years) and Trump in front of certain supporters to give facts and answer questions about the virus and outbreak, they would go with Trump’s BS.
It can be both. More than doubling the yearly flu toll with something you can’t even vaccinate against is nothing [del]to sneeze at[/del] to dismiss out of hand.
We’ve gone a long time, a surprisingly long time, with the Trump Administration’s incompetence not touching the average American (excepting Puerto Rico). That is now changing, and will be even more pronounced in the upcoming weeks and months.
If you get the virus, and have a mild, non-fatal case, are you thereby immune? Can you go help people without worrying about getting it? Can you still spread the virus even though it cannot affect you?
I’m sure he does love that Americans are not travelling overseas, where they might learn something, or be exposed to how social democratic countries actually work better than the shit-show they have at home.
Trump should just emulate his lover, Kim Jong, and forbid travel outside of the USA for anyone without his personal permission. Build a giant wall around the country. Much easier to control your population this way.
