The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

In a recent conversation with my FoxNews-watching, Trump-supporting FIL, he 1) made sneering remarks about “socialist healthcare”, and 2) complained about a recent $4000 medical bill.

For an otherwise intelligent man, his self-awareness and critical thinking skills have been severely damaged by his choice of news outlets. And he’s not remotely the only one. Some people, presented with one and one, put them together and get “Benghazi! Socialism! MAGA!” instead of “two”.

I’m reminded of a comment made by a Trump supporter about how bad Obamacare was. When he was asked about his own insurance, he said “I don’t have Obamacare, I’m covered by the ACA.”

I hope to Og that that’s a typo…

[Emphasis in quote mine]

But that’s November. As I’ve said before, if we’re still at that level or worse of infection and panic in seven months, then the country, or human civilization, is in deep and serious trouble and the election will be the least of our problems.

I think that if that doesn’t come to pass, then most of the coronavirus impact will be political and not practical.

I work with lots of that guy.

Please tell me you informed him, politely even, that ACA is “Obamacare”. And share his reaction with us. Pretty please?

I’ve tried that. All I got was an insistent “no it isn’t” several times followed by a semi-exasperated “you don’t know what you’re talking about” as they walked away.

Sadly, that’s exactly what I thought happened. No doubt he also accused you of being, as I have been accused by such persons, “alt left”.

Nah; that kind of categorizing was waaaaaaaay over their head.

Actually, I make a point to do this at all our health enrollment meetings. A lot of people know, some are startled, once or twice they (always, ALWAYS white men) argue.

The line I use is:

"The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, gives you the following protections which were not available prior to Obamacare and which the Trump Administration is currently arguing in court to take away:

  1. Pre-existing conditions coverage
  2. Spending caps on you. There is a maximum amount you will have to pay.
  3. No spending caps on behalf of the insurance company in keeping you healthy- if the cost of your treatment is $2,000,000, they eat all of it except your maximum out-of-pocket."

I do get a kick out of those folks who whine about Obamacare/ACA being “socialized medicine” and then bitch about how bad that is. Really? It can’t be that bad. Our military has completely socialized* medicine and, in my experience, it’s pretty damn good. South Korea has socialized medicine, and it’s really damn good. Actually–and I think I’ve posted this stance on this board before–I think the United States should follow South Korea’s system.

*Ironic, ain’t it, for a group whose members, for the most part, seem to despise socialism?

The Republican mayor of Sterling Heights, Michigan, the fourth largest city in the state, who voted for Individual 1 in 2016, has endorsed Biden. He said he can’t look his kids in the face and support a deranged individual as President.

How did he avoid looking them in the face since 2016? Trump was deranged back then, too.

Individual 1 wants DOJ to investigate media coverage of the coronavirus.

Barr will do it. You help install a dictator, you do moronic dictator fetch quests.

Check it out:

Yes, you read that right: he voted for Trump in 2016 despite thinking even then that Trump was deranged. And somehow, with critical thinking skills and priorities like that, he’s the mayor of the 4th largest city in Michigan!

Let’s go to the quarry and throw stuff down there!

There are better sources in the world. The one that the article links to, for example. And, in that one, they make a differentiation between “Justice” and “Barr”, and between “wants” and “demands”.

I may want to rip the head off that guy who pinched my girlfriend’s butt. Actually doing it is bad. Wanting it is of ambiguous morality.

Of course, Vanity Fair also goes on to quote “a former White House official” about the President’s current frame of mind which sounds pretty suspicious.

I am reminded of Michael Biasello, from The Federalist.

Remember that you don’t have to lie, to lie. Opinion and textually truthful statements are a wonderful way to mislead a reader.

As said, there are better sources out there. You don’t have to read crap ones to determine that Trump is an idiot and a crook. And you’re of no use to the world if your arguments to back the idea that he’s an idiot and a crook comes from sources of his caliber.

“PoliticsUSA” is a biased source, but what Rick Kitchen actually said was “wants” and “DOJ” which was the more accurate version. Maybe he should have said the same think but used the Vanity Fair article as his citation.

By the way I’m not sure how their switching “Justice” to “Barr” shows their bias - does one make the President look worse than the other?

Which shows how flawed the analytical thinking is in your typical MAGAt. That’s like the army delpoying their latest Sekrit Weapon – slingshots.
