Indeed. Churchill often had to use dozens of police to disperse a crowd of protesters before he went anywhere… Right?
And remember that time Churchill went to a church uninvited for 30 seconds, (After having the reverend thrown out) and got pictures of himself holding a bible upside down? That totally happened.
I wonder if his timing might just carry more weight? He is essentially saying that people in the armed forces should not follow the commands of Trump, but rather their constitutional oath. And this is directed at all levels of the forces, top to bottom. And that message is really needed right now.
I agree. It is not like Mattis did not make it clear in his resignation letter that he thought Trump was an idiot. But, I think he wanted to really save his fire until it was most desperately needed.
In desperate times we should take allies where we can get them. Shame on Mattis for playing a role in normalizing Trump (and waiting until now to speak out), good for Mattis for recognizing it now and speaking out. Forward movement is better than the lack thereof.
Not really. They’ll find some way of convincing themselves that Mattis is a cuck. There’s no reasoning with them! They worship Trump as if he is an infallible god.
Penn Jillette was on Celebrity Apprentice with Trump. On his podcast he’s said something quite similar, and that he’d never seen Trump tell a joke or even laugh except in an unkind manner. He’d seen him laugh AT people, but never with them.
That’s a scary thing, a person with literally no sense of humor.
I hate to defend Trump, but he actually did tell a joke once (which some extremely brave aide probably wrote for him), and it actually was sort of self-deprecating, although the main brunt fell on Melania.
He was talking about how the press was unfair to him and his family, and said that when Michelle Obama made a speech, the press fawned over her. But when Melania made the very same speech…
