So many things this morning.
1-Individual 1 in touting his unemployment numbers: Trump invoked the name of George Floyd, who he hoped “is looking down right now and saying, ‘This is a great thing happening for our country.'” “A great day for him, a great day for everybody. This is great day for everybody. This is a great, great day in terms of equality,” Trump continued.
2-Yamiche Alcindor of PBS asked him why he didn’t have a racial inequality-related plan laid out, prompting Trump to put a finger to his lips as he said “shhh.”
Trump later said his plan was to have “the strongest economy in the world” as it would be the “greatest thing that can happen for race relations,” causing Alcindor to shout out that the unemployment rate actually went up for African-Americans and Asian-Americans. “How is that a victory?” Alcindor asked.
Trump, dismissively waved off the White House reporter’s question, derisively adding: “You are something.”
3-The Third Amendment is suddenly in the news. The out of state National Guard who were deployed on the streets of Washington were being housed in hotels, until the mayor had them removed under the Third Amendment’s provision that 'No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. ’
4-Individual 1 retweets a letter from his former laywer John Dowd calling peaceful protesters terrorists.
Better than Nostradamus (who was a hack anyhow) is Oscar Wilde to me and the interpretation of the tale of The Selfish Giant by the The King Singers of the animated special of the 1970’s:
ON the radio I head NPR reporting on that and the reporter, being a bit charitable, had to point out: “It is not clear what the president meant by that” Since this is the pit:
Of course we know it, he really does think that a black person staying dead and removing the rights of peaceful protesters and the reverends and staff of the church at Lafayette Park is a great day. What a Putz!
The mayor of Washington had a massive BLACK LIVES MATTER painted on 16th street leading up to the White House, and renamed the street Black Lives Matter Plaza.
I think it was fucking stupid to call the National Guard to DC, and Trump is an idiot, and I agree with the DC Mayor that the troops should be removed. But the person who wrote that piece about the Third Amendment doesn’t know what they’re talking about, and your summary of the situation is also incorrect.
They are right in arguing that the hotels (at least in a time of peace) “have no obligation to house troops.” But if the owners of the hotels agree to house the troops, and do so (presumably, in this case) in return for payment by the government, then there is no Third Amendment violation.
There is no Third Amendment issue here.
Furthermore, regarding your own summary, the DC Mayor’s letter requesting the removal of the troops does not, so far as I can tell, mention the Third Amendment.
Something about the unemployment numbers is apparently troubling. In short, there are about 9 million people receiving unemployment that were not counted as unemployed.
