You’re right – we would not be surprised. Especially since Trump has recently gone so hard after McConnell.
I’ve often thought one reason the Rethugs were hesitant to go after Trump is, they’re not sure if they’re going to get Pence or Ryan as his successor. Pence is in some peril from the Mueller investigation in terms of potential obstruction charges.
Reptile Pence also shows himself daily to be a hypocritical Mercer tool, willing to say and do just about anything to keep on the good side of the loon in the Oval. Witness the pearl-clutching staged walkouts at Hamilton and the Colts game as well as comfortable lying about Trump’s motives in firing Comey, etc. Mercers were not enthusiastic about Trump, but they turned easily enough after Cruz’s bid failed. But with Mercer money behind Bannon now, I’m not sure McConnell and Ryan are any more eager to work with Pence than with Trump. Getting to be a distinction without a difference.

Yeah, but Pence would have to go a long way to match Donald’s ravenous, black-hole need for attention–and all the potential for nuclear armageddon that inevitably goes along with it. Pence would be less dangerous to the survival of the human species.
It does appear that the Mercer’s have full charge of the programming for that particular audio-animatronic figure, though. Which is disturbing in its own way. Those people ain’t wired up right.

My parents recently moved from the Florida Keys to central Florida. They love the weather, but hate just about everything else about living deep, deep in Trump country.
Think of every unpleasant and unkind stereotype of the ‘typical Trump voter’ you can think of. It’s like that, only worse.
It’s a bunch of middle-aged whites, and my god they love their Trump.

It amazes me how many people that have never lived anywhere their entire life outside of central Florida that insist America is the greatest nation on earth.
My parents hate it here so bad they would move in a heartbeat and go back to Minnesota or the north-east, but the winters are just too tough on my Mom nowadays.
Depends on what part of central Florida they’re in. If it’s The Villages or some other insular retiree-heavy development or a cracker town like Sanford or Ocala, your description is dead on. But Orlando or Tampa or other cities with some actual diversity have a very different environment - not that you can’t find bigots there anyway, of course. There’s a dividing line just north of Orlando: North of it you’re in the Confederacy, but south of it you’re in the North. Or the Caribbean, depending on the neighborhood.
We’re two hours north of Tampa, one hour west of Ocala and about 150 years behind 2017.

This administration the moral equivalent of ISIS. They create nothing, they contribute nothing. Lacking intelligence and competence, they blithely destroy the hard work done by others for no reason save spite. Because they “know better.” But when it comes time to put up or shut up, there are no plans. Healthcare, the Paris Accord, the Iran deal and on and on. No fucking plan, and not capable of actually doing the work.
