This would have been YUGE. At that time, even the Republicans probably would not have tolerated it and it could have lead to impeachment. Now the Republicans are in full obstruction mode and are doing everything to discredit the investigation – deleted texts and a “secret society” are being spun into conspiracy theories.
In any case, the Mueller-Trump interview is happening soonish so the investigation will wind down one way or another.

Interesting quote from Schmidt re: Iran, and it certainly fits within the spectrum of my personal experience. Every last person I’ve ever met from Iran (at least in the US) has been extremely well educated. The Iranians I’ve met (admittedly not that many but enough to form an impression) are in contrast to many whom I’ve met from the Gulf States – lovely people (many of them) but not necessarily the most educated lot, and far more prone to fundamentalist (and thus, potentially dangerous) ideology. All the more ironic that we’re allowing literally hundreds of thousands of people from the Gulf States each year on things like student and other visas and yet disallowing Iranians. My apologies in advance for crass, over-broad generalizations.
I suspect that Mueller’s going to implicate people in the GOP before long - either congressmen or the mega-donors who give them their marching orders. I find it hard to believe the GOP’s simply protecting the president.
They’re protecting their pocketbooks. As long as the GOP in congress need Trump’s lunkhead supporters to keep them employed and sucking at the government teat, they need the lunkhead Trump.
