The Trump Administration: A Clusterfuck in the Making

I’m confident several thousand people thought up that joke before me, but thank you.

Jeb?

Il Douchebag?

Jesus, even that guy looks good in comparison to what we have now.

As outrageous as Trump’s 1st year has been, I think there’s a potentially bigger story here that goes beyond just Trump and a handful of Republicans acting out against an investigation into the 2016 campaign. This is an orchestrated effort to deconstruct the federal government as we know it, and if it’s successful, it will change the character of this country profoundly - it will simply not be the same country we’ve known, and it could become completely unrecognizable. It could even splinter or collapse. The billionaire donor class has taken complete control of the Republican party and the Republican party are nothing but proxies for these plutocrats - that is the only way any of this makes sense. The plutocrats want a country (and a government) in which they are the alpha and the omega of power.

So is he saying that all the crap he spewed about Obama was treasonous?

Yes, but if you point that out to him or any of the people who badmouthed Obama for the last years, they’ll get all butthurt about it.

So in some people’s reasoning, we shouldn’t do that because it will just alienate them.

It is still so depressing that the scales in the US are so tilted to the right.

What does the right have to do to get voted out of power? Engage in treason, be so brainwashed and stupid that it is impossible to ignore, engage in massive criminal conspiracies, destroy our reputation, explode the deficit, start wars of choice, threaten our democracy and constitution, destroy people’s ability to retire or visit a doctor safely and securely, etc.

What does the left have to do to get voted out of power? Not be perfect. Pass laws that are decent, but dont’ solve all our problems overnight.

Will things ever get better, or is egotistical, resentful white nationalism so ingrained in our politics that this is all we can ever hope to be as a nation? If so, China deserves to be the world’s new superpower. We are too deranged to handle responsibility.

That was Bannon’s mission.

Interesting. A fat orange fuckstick who colluded and connived with the Russians to influence the election, who compromised I don’t know how much top secret information for them, who refuses to enforce the sanctions imposed by Congress,

dares to call anyone else a traitor?

Fuck him and everyone who supports him.

One thing you’ve got to give thump credit for: he’s totally inconsistent and without principles (okay, two things…).

Trump isn’t inconsistent or without principles. He has a very consistent principle.

“What benefits Donald J Trump in this particular moment”. He is very consistent in acting on that principle. Everything he does fits that particular principle, luckily he is so deranged and stupid that he usually does more harm than good to himself. But his motives are always enhancing his own benefit (his ego, his wealth, his freedom, etc).

Same with the GOP. ‘What makes republicans look good and democrats look bad. What helps the GOP gain power and status, and reduce power and status for the democrats’. When you use that lens, their behavior is very consistent and highly principled.

Principles don’t have to be good for people to have them.

Dow closes down 1,175 in biggest single-day point loss ever

So the question will be…How did Obama screw this one up?

Oh dear. I hope that doesn’t adversely affect anyone who didn’t support Trump.

You’re right. I stand corrected.

By being black I guess. And Muslim. And Kenyan. And having an uppity wife who’s really a man. The bigger question is how did Obama NOT screw it up before now, amirite?

This is sadly all too true.

It is profoundly deeper than that. Go beyond Bannon and think about who funded Breitbart: the Mercers. Bannon’s pretty much wiped off the map not just because he challenged Trump - that’s what people get wrong. He’s gone because by threatening Trump, he threatened (and to some degree, still does threaten) to disrupt the kinds of plans that the Mercers, the Kochs, and others have for this country. Bob Corker and Jeff Flake are gone for the same reason.

Who did Wikileaks work with? Cambridge Analytica, the company founded by the Mercers. In other words, we have American billionaires who knowingly colluded with Vladimir Putin. Why? Just to elect Trump? There has to be more to it than that. It’s because the Mercers saw an opportunity to disrupt the election and the democratic process, in the same way that Vladimir Putin did.

Vladimir Putin isn’t necessarily a friend of the Republican party, and the American plutocrats aren’t necessarily friends of Putin’s kleptocracy. But they have mutual interests. They had a common enemy. They still do. October and November ought to be very, very interesting.

I missed the edit window but wanted to add:

I would add to that last part: Just be seen by average white people as having unpleasant personal characteristics, or too “elitist”, or too much in league with nonwhite voters. :frowning:

The Right is closer to the identity of the majority of people who vote in this country. It’s easier for voters - even “centrists”, “moderates”, and “independents” - to identify with them. Minorities, women, and others who find a space in the Democratic party might have legitimate grievances, but the average white person finds it hard to relate to them. And since labor unions have been so badly weakened in this country, there’s nothing that really bands middle class whites together except religion.

I wish I could find hope, but I’m afraid I don’t. What I see is a slow-motion disaster in the making. Only when 75% are forced to live with the consequences of conservative lies will there be change. It’s too bad that change can’t come more gradually and as the product of reasoned discourse. Unfortunately, the billionaire class has largely succeeded in using propaganda channels to destroy public forums. And they’ve never supported the kinds of education system that would engender critical thought and civic virtue. All we do is consume stuff - stuff which they sell of course.
