The U.S. President, if sufficiently shameless, is mostly above the law. And DJT is sufficiently shameless.
A good example of this is the pardon power. A President who was committed to acting under law would always rubber-stamp the recommendations of the Justice Department Office of the Pardon Attorney. Someone like Bill Clinton usually did this, but not always. Above-the-law Trump just pardons who he wants to, period. He’s legally above the law.
If he had actual information on the Bidens - and Trump wants actual information on the Bidens - and the DOJ would certainly be interested in actual information on the Bidens - why would he want to hold onto it at all? Seems thats the kinda thing that would make all this other stuff disappear (even though the actions of the Bidens have zero to do with Trump’s actions)
Yeah, Giuliani’s response makes no sense. “Trump won’t underbus me because if he did, I’d release dirt on the Bidens!” Uh, what?
I think the most likely explanation of Giuliani’s “insurance” claim is that Giuliani has bupkis but he thinks he’s being clever or something. He’s a fucking fool.
I would like to add that Guiliani is clearly very worried about being thrown under the bus. Everything about what he’s saying and doing reveals the inner turmoil.
And to that, I say, awesome! I hope he’s losing a lot of sleep and feeling a lot of stress because frak that guy.
If we read it the way that a Republican would interpret it - that Biden is guilty of something - then he’s threatening to do… What Trump hired him to do…?
Either it’s code for something else, he has evidence that exonerates Biden, or (the likely answer) he has evidence that Trump has was committing crimes against Biden (beyond even what we already know) and he’ll release that.
But certainly, I think we can say, Giuliani is telling Trump that he’s expecting a pardon before even getting to the arrest stage let alone the “sitting in jail for 2-6 years, before Trump is leaving office” timetable that we would usually expect.
Honestly, I don’t think he has any insurance against Trump either. I think the first statement was also a lie. Guiliani, much like Trump, says whatever nonsense pops into his brain. I think he’s very worried about being thrown under the bus, and so his mob lawyer brain goes immediately to “I have insurance!”
I was thinking last night, that if Guiliani was a character in a movie, you’d roll your eyes at him. You’d be like “Come on, the President of the United States could never have such an awful lawyer.” Unless he was supposed to be the comic relief.
In any case, as the Republicans turn on Guiliani I’m looking forward to their talking points being presented here by the usual suspects. I wonder if any of them have the courage to say anything BEFORE the Republican talking points come out about the FOIA reveal and/or Guiliani’s “insurance”? Do they dare possibly say something that might not be the party line?
To me, it was obvious that Giuliani was first threatening Trump, then when called on it, just threw out “oh, I mean info on the Bidens” because of course he could not admit to having dirt on Trump.
He’s a liar, but there is no doubt he has such dirt, just because there is so much of it to go around, and he’s at the center of it all.
As a side note, I am worried that the narrative war is not being won.
Following Trump’s insane chopper talk * I WANT NOTHING *, many reputable news sites explained that he was referring to his call to Sondland and that that call supports Trump’s defense.
But unless I misunderstood something, that was the call Trump made just *after *the whistleblower complaint was made public. That’s really important contextual information that for some reason is being left out.
And the same is true of the aid being released.
Dummies. The insurance is stuff on the Bidens because they are the source of all this shit being downloaded onto Feckless Leader! And they have to crush Giuliani because he is the one man who can thwart their schemes!

One cause of Trump, I think, is that the media has had their budget scaled back so far in the age of the internet that they simply can’t get very good people and those people don’t have the time nor budget to do good work.
Rudy has known dt for 30 or 40 years. And he was the chief at SDNY! And then freakin Mayor! He has plenty of stuff, more than the average new yorker, who I would bet also had stuff.
