I remember watching a movie as a kid…but unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of it. I remember it being a good movie, though, and I always wanted to see it again if I could just find out the name of it.
And so, here’s what I do remember about the movie, which is a lot…so I hope someone will know what movie I’m talking about.
Okay, first of all, it involved time travel. It didn’t have anyone going back to the dinosaur age or future, though…but rather just back a few years/decades.
It was about flying, too…there was this pilot who did something heroic or something like that. And I think his son or grandson is the one that went back in time to change something.
And I remember when the person returned to the future, there was this wall (or tree) with names on it, and I remember the pilot was now on that wall (or tree) as being remembered/being a hero.
This movie had to have come out around the years of 1982-1987.
That’s all I remember, but you’d think that’d be enough. Hopefully, anyway.
It wasn’t Biggles (which I love and have seen many times) or Forever Young.
This was definitely about time travel. A young-ish boy (about 12-15) goes back to about the 1940s-1950s and helps out this pilot in some way, over something. The movie is centered around milestones in aviation. And like I said, I think the boy is related to the pilot somehow (and he finds out about this near the end of the movie). Finally, returning to the future, the boy finds something is different (in a good way–his visit to the past made a difference). I think the difference is that the pilot is now recognized for something or had did something heroic.
You’d think this would be enough for the dopers to know what it is, haha. Maybe I’ll run a few Google searches.
"“I recently watched “The Blue Yonder” on VHS.This was the first time I had seen it since it aired on TV in 1985. I still love the movie as much now as then. This is an Adventure/SciFi movie about a young boy (Huckleberry Fox) who goes back in time to try to save his grandfather who died while trying to become the first person to fly across the Atlantic. There are great performances by Peter Coyote (as the boy’s father) and Art Carney (as a friend of the boy), but for me, what really made this a first rate production was the masterful direction of Mark Rosman and the incredibly believeable performance by the very adorable young Huckleberry Fox in what may possibly be his greatest role ever. This is a movie for anyone who needs encouragement to follow their dreams and believe in their own vision. This movie soars with adventure, and when you watch it your spirit will soar as well. (I am hoping and praying that Disney will release this wonderful film on DVD.)”
That sounds more like it than anything else I’ve read so far. I think that’s it.
Anyone ever see this movie?
Would anyone have gotten it if I hadn’t found it myself, I wonder?
More and more I’m convinced this is it. It sounds exactly like the movie I was thinking of.
Confirmed: The Blue Yonder is the movie I was thinking about.
If you go to 10:10 in this video, you’ll see the statue with the names I was talking about in the OP (that I remembered).
Thank you, all, for trying to figure out what movie it was. I hope I, in turn, helped those who might have been wondering what movie I was talking about as well.
