The use of "One of Us" in Vanilla Sky

I re-watched Vanilla Sky for the first time in years today. I sort of understood the plot; from what I can tell, he was put into cryogenesis after the nightclub scene, and everything after that was a dream. 150 years have passed in real time, and the end of the movie is him finally waking up. But I was wondering about the significance of the song “One of Us”, which is scattered throughout the movie. Is it because he’s the “God” of his own fantasy world?

That, and he probably set it up as an auditory cue to subconsciously remind him that he’s in a dream.

You spent time rewatching that thing? I’m still trying to get back the first two hours I wasted on it. And then the two hours I spent watching **Abre Los Ojos **when I didn’t realize it was the same movie. (I know, that was my own fault.)
