I’ve watched this movie twice now, and both times I’ve missed the full ending, first time didn’t see the jump, second, missed the preceding conversation before the jump. Can someone please tell me whether he really commits suicide or it was a rebirth? Thanks muchly.
It’s a rebirth. He ends his “dream”, and moves on to reality. It’s a real life for him, as opposed to a “perfect” dream that he can live in forever.
Well, after he “jumps” the movie ends with a dark screen and a voice saying “open your eyes”. Since he is hearing something he obviously isn’t dead so that rules out suicide. The real question is if any of the events of the movie were real or if the whole thing was a dream. (Remember, the movie also starts with a dark screen and the “open your eyes” line, then he wakes up. This happens twice in fact. The first time he is dreaming so why couldn’t the second time have been a dream too?
Argh. I have brain cells devoted to remembering this movie and I want them back!
I know what you mean, and I’ll burn some more soon, as I have to watch this movie in one sitting, tough way to figure it out with bits and pieces. It could be worse though, could be Mulholland Drive.
Thank you both.
I fucking love Vanilla Sky.
Definetly one of my favorite movies.
[foreign film snob] The original Spanish movie was better. [/snob]
