Sometimes you just keep running across the same name over and over again. It’s got to be simply a run of chance occurrences stacking up – the laws of probability d say that, every now and then, things you think unlikely are going to happen over and over. But it feels like things being directed by an outside force, like Fate. This can have significant results – it’s how I ended up marriede to Pepper Mill.
Buit that’s another story.
Lately, I’ve been running into the name Ingrid Pitt over and over.
First it was the thread on Movies with Stupid Premises – she was in the unbelievably awful film The Prehistoric Sound. I looked over the cast list and only her name leapt out at me. Where had I seen that before? Cross-check on the IMDB:
Hmm. She’s been in a lot of flicks I’ve seen, but in mostly minor roles. Dr. Zhivago. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The Wicker Man (the original), Octopussy. where Eagles Dare.
Agha! She had starring roles in The Vampire Sisters and The House that Dripped Blood! I just looked up The Vampire Lovers for a piece I was writing (don’t ask).
But then last night, I was in a bookstore and I flipped through an anthology of vampire stories and one was by … Ingrid Pitt!
Nah, that can’t be right. Someone wrote a story called Ingrid Pitt because she played Carmilla in an adaptation of Sheridan le Fanu’s seminal vampire story. Nope – Ingrid Pitt was the author. Okay, so someone took her name in homage. Flip to the bios.
Nope. It’s her. Lady Carmilla herself is now writing vampire stories. And she’s a regular columnist, too:

Weird stuff. I suspect she has a lot more to do with the writings her name is on than certain captains.
