We are the children of the Eighties. We are not the first “lost generation” nor today’s lost generation; in fact, we think we know just where we stand - or are discovering it as we speak.

'76 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon, diahrea brown, with Grateful Dead/Pink Floyd adorned, tye-Dyed curtains and dirty, crusty, sheepskin seat covers. You want options? Don’t forget the G.I Joe action figures glued to the hood or the rusted through hole on the driver’s side floor. My first car! Sorry, not what you were looking for?

“Teaching without words and work without doing are understood by very few.”

Homer, Hmm… 8/10 Mopar/Mitsu products. Good choices. But, what’s that shivvy doing in there?

Seriosly though, what about Euro cars? Germany and GB have produced some nice stuff. And what about the Real cars the big three produced (pre '74)?

When I was in high school I bought a 1951 Mercury for 50 bucks. Drove it for 3 years without spending a dime on it, then sold it for $75.

I’d kill to have that car again. It never failed me and could do 125 mph if given enough road.

This space for rent.

Ford Falcons!

Why those colors? What’s the deal?

I might pick maybe two of the vehicles on that list for the ‘10 best’. But then, it also depends on what your criterion is. Handling? Performance? Looks? Ability to get paid by owning them?

Ah…Ford Falcoons

That was supposed to be, “The ability to get LAID by owning them.”

There was a great parody of a car commercial in a National Lampoon magazine a number of years ago. This was back when Ford was trying to compare the Granada to a Mercedes. The ad in Lampoon went something like this:

“The Ford Granada handles just like a Mercedes. The Ford Granada has the same acceleration as a Mercedes. The Ford Granada is as quiet as a Mercedes. You can hardly tell the difference!”

Then, at the bottom of the ad in small print:

“Now try and get laid because you own a Granada.”

Why limit ourselves to street-legal cars?

My vote for best car goes to the Thrust SSC, the dual-jet-engine propelled car that broke the sound barrier.

Quick-N-Dirty Aviation: Trading altitude for airspeed since 1992.

for the record I would like to state, that I find the Daytona to be a foul, butt ugly car. None of my male aquaintances can fathom this reaction. go fig.

the very best car the the word is my 91 Nissan Stanza, (“metallic beige”) thank you very much.

Really! What are the odds that the ten best cars EVER made were all produced in the 1990s?

My list, in no particular order:

1965 Ford Mustang
1956 Ford T-Bird
1957 Chevy Bel Air
1966 MGB Roadster
1960 356 Porsche Super 1600 Roadster
1963 Jaguar XKE Coupe
1967 VW Karmann Ghia
1962 VW Bus
1960-65 Corvette Stingray
Any wood paneled Ford Station Wagon built between 1939 and 1955

 Glad to see no one mentioned Honda.

The Volkswagen Thing is the all 10 of the best cars ever.

When I’m king, my garage will consist of:

  • 1963 Corvette
  • 1972 Jaguar E-type (V12)
  • 1957 Mercedes 300SL
  • 1964 Pontiac GTO
  • 1966 Ford GT40
  • 1969 Ferrari Daytona Spyder
  • 1970-ish Jeep CJ
  • 1909 Ford Model “T”
  • 1936 Auburn 852 Boattail
  • 2000 Corvette

Holy crap! I didn’t even notice that 80% were Mopar/Mitsu! I never really aligned myself with any company before, but I guess my true colors show. This list is just the 10 cars that appeal most to me, and the colors are the ones that, in my opinion, they look best in. I can’t believe I screwed the HTML, though. Mark it as my very first HTML screwup on this board ever. Pshhh, not even you ‘long timers’ can count yourself as consistenly flawless when using HTML than me, save Danny boy. If anyone’s wondering, I just replied to drag this back up top for a few minutes.

If I had all the money in the world…

Mercer Model 35-R Raceabout
Stanley Model 1915 Coach
Cord Model 812 Custom
Duesenberg Model J 6.9 litre sedan
Chrysler Airflow 4.4 litre Sedan
1949 Cadillac Series 62
1955 Ford Thunderbird
1963 Studebaker Avanti
1965 Ford Mustang 289
1966 Corvette Sting Ray 427

:::drool::::
And that’s just keepin’ the top 10 in North America.

Whoa! The best muscle car ever built! Btw Sly, I have a '64 Tempest sitting in my garage.

When I was in high school I bought a car from an old man who had bought it for his daughter. It was too ‘racey’ for her, so it sat in the garage for several years collecting dust… I bought it for $1500… The old man was happy to be rid of it…

1969 Shelby Mustang!
Also on my wish list are:

1965 Corvette Coupe
1965 Shelby Cobra (hey, I can dream can’t I)
The new Vipers look pretty damn good, too!

and if I could get one legally into the U.S.

1999 Mini Cooper LE S Works (John Cooper Custom)

That’s only 5, but it’s enough…
