The Walking Dead; 2.01 "What Lies Ahead" (open spoilers)

I find it’s getting pretty close to the Eight Deadly Words:

“I don’t care what happens to these people.”

I don’t care either - but I am going to enjoy watching it happen to them…

I think someone else mentioned this upthread - but it’s really easy to watch a show and decide from the safety of your couch that such-and-such a move is less than optimal.

I like it when shows like these have people do sub-optimal things (within reason) - much more realistic. In this case, they’re apparently short on fresh water (or at least worried about it). Shane hits the mother lode, and gets himself a drink and a bath.

Similarly, complaining that Andrea didn’t lock the RV door. By the time she knew the stagger was shuffling by, it was choice between hunting wabbits (be vewy, vewy quiet) and hoping she was missed (because in general, why would a zombie step up into the RV), and moving and drawing attention to herself - the noise of closing/locking the door could have alerted the stagger, and they may have all just stood around waiting for the door to open.

I’d actually argue that she made the right choice there.

Okay, I’ll give you the motorcycle argument. I don’t see a massive old RV as being the best choice for travelling around though, still.

Actually, to me, it stands to reason: Daryl doesn’t like Rick. Rick chained Daryl’s brother Merle up on a roof in Atlanta (for cause, I know), and then T-Dog (really, we can’t get a real name for the one black dude on the show? Is he going to be that cliched and disposable?) fumbled the keys to the handcuffs before running away.

Daryl may not be the sharpest blade in the drawer, especially where education is concerned, but he isn’t altogether stupid either: chances of survival with a group are better than alone, if for no other reason that someone will be standing guard while he sleeps.

So Daryl’s flip response was just his way of saying to Rick, “I don’t like you, but I respect our need to stay together. But tracking lessons aren’t included in our Mutual Aid/Survival Package.”

It’s a lot to draw out of one line, but given their history last season, I think its reasonable.

I also noticed Rick giving Daryl a “look” later in the episode when Daryl pulls the snub-nosed revolver (that he lifted off the dead guy in the tent) out of the back of his waistband and handed to Laurie.

ETA: That he handed to Andrea; Laurie is the actress’s name that plays Andrea.

Will the first episode be replayed this evening before the new episode airs?

Yes.

I’m watching the first episode now, and although I know it’s silly of me, it seems worse to have kids get it.

I missed the first episode at least last year, so I’ll be glad to fill in a few blanks here (I missed the first episode again tonight, but they should be replaying it).

Hey, did anyone else watch Talking Dead with Chris Hardwick last week? That was pretty funny (they picked on a lot of the same things that we are noticing here).

I only paid attention to the behind the scenes parts.

As for tonight’s Walking Dead episode, I thought the pace was too slow. I disagree with everybody that last week’s episode as too slow, but I thought that this episode just dragged along in my opinion.

Loved Daryl in this episode. “Am I the only one Zen around here?”

It’s nice to see Lauren Cohan as Maggie. I recognized her from her role as Vivian Volkoff on *Chuck *last season, but others may know her better from Supernatural, or The Vampire Diaries.

Tonight’s Talking Dead again touched on a lot of questions being asked here and elsewhere on the net. Like what Jenner whispered to Rick, and why many of the bodies in the cars had not turned to zombies. Kirkman just kind of hand-waved away that last question, though, saying maybe they all suffered some kind of head trauma when they died. And many questions–like the Jenner thing–he has to “no comment” on since they pertain to future plot developments.

This is one small step above travelling by rollerblades. A small step.

I totally agree … love the idea but so far the characters blow …cept for norman reedus whom i love lol
