The Walking Dead; 2.05 "Chupacabra" (open spoilers)

You mention Lost and I had a Lost moment last night.

When the young kid and his girlfriend showed up, it reminded me of (can’t remember the names…Paulo and Nikki maybe?) the two they added in Lost that had the side story with the diamonds, ended up being buried, maybe alive?

The way the kid showed up and was like, “hey, can I help with the search.”

Did we even know those two existed before that? Maybe I just missed it.

I see it as TV shorthand. They have other encounters, but the audience only gets to see the parts that are most dramatic. I’m getting more forgiving in my old age I guess. Also, maybe the ravine is where all the roamers ended up by falling down just like Daryl? Only 2 of them were both ambulatory and nearby.

Also, remember the walkers are attracted to sound. Daryl’s falling down into the river would have alerted any of them nearby.

I think they were in the background of Otis’s memorial. We’re clearly not seeing every day in their life. When Rick brought out the map, he said “I have new search grids for eveyone,” implying they’ve been at this search grid system for a while. So we’ve gone past at least one day, probably more.

Oh, and I’d like to take the time to talk about how much I love the opening credit music to this show. Especially the way it starts to fade in over the cold open before jumping to the credits.

Ahh, yep. I remember seeing them there. I think at that point, I thought, “Where were they during all the ruckus with Carl and Otis?” Anyway, just the way he walked up asking to help, and Rick introduced him to us, reminded me of Paulo and Nikki, or whatever their names are.

So when do they decide to take refuge in Billy Murray’s house?

I’m thinking if our core group ever gets to a hub of civilization, whoever else is there will be like the other anonymous passengers on Lost, milling around on the beach. We only met them when they were needed to move the plot forward (like Artz) or totally extraneous, like Paulo and Nikki (boy, everyone hated that stand-alone episode).

As opposed to the brilliant, experienced group that has some magical zombie forcefield that keeps zombies away from their untouched-by-the-apocalypse farm and lets them easily route zombies into the barn?

And why aren’t they looking for Twinkies?

I understand why Herschel has a “No Guns!” rule now.

Now I have this tune stuck in my head:
*
The zombie in the well
The zombie in the well
Hi ho the derry oh,
the zombie in the well.*

Thanks, John.

<sigh> Well hopefully the writers will come up with some other throwaway line to explain that situation to me. I’m easy to please.

I’m not the most attentive viewer in the world, but have the farmers even bothered to board their windows?

Retronition- when suddenly you realize an actor you’re watching was “Oh… that’s the guy from _____”- is weird and can make you feel stupid. It totally just sank in that Darryl is Murphy from Boondock Saints. (Apologies if this has been brought up before.)

A pity that he isn’t the same character as the six pistol packing Billy Connolly dad character would be a great asset to the team.

He was also Scud in Blade 2.

Most “famous” role is probably the Boondock Saints movies.

He’s actually a pretty good actor.

That is a puzzlement. It’s possible that they used bait, sacrificing a farm animal, or one of the humans was up in the hayloft ringing a dinner bell.

Less likely (but possible?) that people who’d been bitten were quarantined in the barn.

Good point about a cure not reversing the effects of the disease.

It’s TV. The cure ALWAYS reverses the effects of the disease. Generally in a three step fade.

It would truly suck to be the last person in that line.

“i know you just got bitten and are still alive, but would you mind waiting out in the Barn O’ Zombies?”

Consider my mind blown - I didn’t realize it but the minute I read your post I had an instant :smack: moment.

No offense meant, but I am pretty surprised people don’t recognize him.

He has a pretty unique face, I think.

Maybe it’s the lack of Irish-American/Boston accent and dual pistols.

The outtro music to this episode should have been Dylan’s ‘Maggie’s Farm’.
mmm
